Dyer, John Scurloch, John Truehardt, Bob Ba il ey The Mayor c~lred the meeting to order at 7:36 p.m. I Mr. James Sterling appeared before the Council to appeal a ru I. i ng by the PI anni ng and Zon i ng Comtni ss i on. Mr. Ster ling had Petitioned a change ,of zoning from "Residential" -to "Mu i-ti- family" on a piece of property on North Austin Street. Mr. Sterling explained that he and his wife were accompanied by Bob Bailey, John Scurloch and John Truehardt, prospective pur- chasers of the Austin Street property as a site for an IS-unit apartment house. Hei ntroduced Mr. Ba i ley, \"ho showed the plans for the apartment house, and emphasized the advantages of the selected site. The Mayor recognized Mr. Scurloch, who spoke of their difficulty in finding a site' for the bui Iding which was already zoned for apartment houses. Mr. Truehardt, third of the prospective purchasers of the Austin Street property, also appeal-: cd for a reversal of the Planning and Zoning Commission's rul ing. He reiterated their need for terrain that would not require extens- i ve "f ill" . He stated that some sites shown them by a rea I estate dealer would increase the cost of the building by 30 to 40%. He also requested that the Planning and Zoning Commission give the reasons -for the den i a I of the request for re- zon 1 ng. The Mayor told the delegation the Counci I had no wish to procrastinate, but they would have to consult with the Planning and Zoning Commission and-find out the reasons for denial of the request. Alderman Tuttle said he thought more investigation was cal led -for. Alderman Pool suggested a joint meeting with the delegation, ,the P I ann i ng and Zon i ng Comm i ss i on and the Counc ii, instead of separate meetings.
