Dyer, John Scurloch, John Truehardt, <br />Bob Ba il ey <br /> <br />The Mayor c~lred the meeting to order at 7:36 p.m. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Mr. James Sterling appeared before the Council to appeal a <br />ru I. i ng by the PI anni ng and Zon i ng Comtni ss i on. Mr. Ster ling <br />had Petitioned a change ,of zoning from "Residential" -to "Mu i-ti- <br />family" on a piece of property on North Austin Street. <br />Mr. Sterling explained that he and his wife were accompanied by <br />Bob Bailey, John Scurloch and John Truehardt, prospective pur- <br />chasers of the Austin Street property as a site for an IS-unit <br />apartment house. Hei ntroduced Mr. Ba i ley, \"ho showed the plans <br />for the apartment house, and emphasized the advantages of the <br />selected site. The Mayor recognized Mr. Scurloch, who spoke of <br />their difficulty in finding a site' for the bui Iding which was <br />already zoned for apartment houses. Mr. Truehardt, third of the <br />prospective purchasers of the Austin Street property, also appeal-: <br />cd for a reversal of the Planning and Zoning Commission's rul ing. <br />He reiterated their need for terrain that would not require extens- <br />i ve "f ill" . He stated that some sites shown them by a rea I estate <br />dealer would increase the cost of the building by 30 to 40%. He <br />also requested that the Planning and Zoning Commission give the <br />reasons -for the den i a I of the request for re- zon 1 ng. The Mayor <br />told the delegation the Counci I had no wish to procrastinate, <br />but they would have to consult with the Planning and Zoning <br />Commission and-find out the reasons for denial of the request. <br />Alderman Tuttle said he thought more investigation was cal led -for. <br />Alderman Pool suggested a joint meeting with the delegation, <br />,the P I ann i ng and Zon i ng Comm i ss i on and the Counc ii, instead of <br />separate meetings.
