SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, MARCH 18, 1966 Present: Mayor Ell is Serur Aldermen: Caesar A. Damon Joe C. Froh William C. Poal A.G. Moon, Joe Rodriguez The Mayor called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Counci Imen signed Consent to Meeting. I The Mayor stated the meeting had been called primari Iy to receive an appraisal on the 3.62 acres of park property on East Hopkins Street which St. John's Church had expressed an interest in buying or leasing. The Mayor read aloud a letter from James l. Carney, Chairman of St. John's Catholic Church Parish Advisory Board, making a proposal for purchase, lease, 01" granting of ingress and egress in perpetuity from East Hopkins Street to the church property. The letter is attached as a part of the Minutes. Mr. Serur fol lowed with A.N. Moon's appraisal report of the 3.62 acres of park property at $50,000. Alderman Damon moved that the appraisal figure be reported to the Rev. Richard Trevino, pastor of St. John's Church, and to the Parish Advisory Board. Alderman Pool seconded the motion. In the discussion which fol lowed, James l. Carney, Chairman of St. John's Parish Advisory Board, stated the price seemed high; that i twou I d be reported to the Board. He asked if the Counc i I would care to consider the other two proposals: to lease, 01" grant ingress and egress in perpetuity to the church property. Alderman Damon said a qualified appraisal of lease price would have to be secured. Alderman Froh said if the Counci I could get $50,000 for the property, it should take it. Alderman Pool agreed. The question of the church's sel ling part of the 18-acre tract was brought up. MI". Carney said there had been offers, but no decision had been reached. The question being called for, the fol lowing vote was recorded: I AYE: NAY: ABSTAINING: Damon, Froh, Pool None Tuttle The Mayor declared the motion carried. The Mayor asked if the Cou~ci I would like to consider the third proposal: granting of ingress and egress. Mr. Carney said the Bishop would make the final decision on what is done with the property and the bui Iding. He said he had been given to understand that "the Bishop takes a dim vi8w of ingress and egress agreements, preferring to own property involved in the location of a chur'ch." MI".
