Moon, <br />Joe Rodriguez <br /> <br />The Mayor called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. <br />Counci Imen signed Consent to Meeting. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor stated the meeting had been called primari Iy to <br />receive an appraisal on the 3.62 acres of park property on <br />East Hopkins Street which St. John's Church had expressed an <br />interest in buying or leasing. The Mayor read aloud a letter <br />from James l. Carney, Chairman of St. John's Catholic Church <br />Parish Advisory Board, making a proposal for purchase, lease, <br />01" granting of ingress and egress in perpetuity from East <br />Hopkins Street to the church property. The letter is attached <br />as a part of the Minutes. Mr. Serur fol lowed with A.N. Moon's <br />appraisal report of the 3.62 acres of park property at $50,000. <br />Alderman Damon moved that the appraisal figure be reported to <br />the Rev. Richard Trevino, pastor of St. John's Church, and to <br />the Parish Advisory Board. Alderman Pool seconded the motion. <br />In the discussion which fol lowed, James l. Carney, Chairman of <br />St. John's Parish Advisory Board, stated the price seemed high; <br />that i twou I d be reported to the Board. He asked if the Counc i I <br />would care to consider the other two proposals: to lease, 01" <br />grant ingress and egress in perpetuity to the church property. <br />Alderman Damon said a qualified appraisal of lease price would <br />have to be secured. Alderman Froh said if the Counci I could <br />get $50,000 for the property, it should take it. Alderman Pool <br />agreed. The question of the church's sel ling part of the 18-acre <br />tract was brought up. MI". Carney said there had been offers, but <br />no decision had been reached. The question being called for, <br />the fol lowing vote was recorded: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br />ABSTAINING: <br /> <br />Damon, Froh, Pool <br />None <br />Tuttle <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion carried. <br /> <br />The Mayor asked if the Cou~ci I would like to consider the <br />third proposal: granting of ingress and egress. Mr. Carney <br />said the Bishop would make the final decision on what is done <br />with the property and the bui Iding. He said he had been given <br />to understand that "the Bishop takes a dim vi8w of ingress and <br />egress agreements, preferring to own property involved in the <br />location of a chur'ch." MI".
