<br />The Mayor cal led the meeting ta order at 7:30 p.m,
<br />
<br />The Minutes .of the February 13, 1967 meeting were approved
<br />by common consent, on motion of Alderman Damon.

<br />Mrs. Henry Contreras appeared before the Caunci I. She asked the
<br />Mayor to read 8 letter explaining that she had made a reservation
<br />for the Recreati on Ha II for a dance honori ng her daughter an her
<br />15th birthday. After an unfortunate incident at the Recreation
<br />Hal I, she was informed that her reservatian for March 4 would be
<br />cancel led. Preparations had been made far in advance, money had
<br />been spent, and Mrs. Contreras asked the Council ta honor the res-
<br />ervation, She stressed that her dance was a private party, with
<br />invi~ations, and that she Was wi Iling to pay for police protection,
<br />The policy of the City in reserving the HaJI far dances was
<br />thoroughty discussed. It was eXplained by the City Manager and
<br />the Chief .of Pal ice that dances that are open to the public are
<br />an invitation to trouble. The Chief showed plctures of the dance
<br />which had initiated the need for a change of pol icy, Alderman
<br />Whittenberg moved that Mrs. Contreras' reservation be honored.
<br />Alderman Pool secanded the motion. On roll call, the fol lowing
<br />vote was ,recarded:

<br />The Mayor declared the mation carried.
<br />
<br />The Mayor read aloud a letter fram,the Business & Prafessional
<br />Women's Club, Members requested that the Counci I remit the
<br />charges for the use .of the Recreation Hal I for their annual
<br />
<br />dinner, in return for which they would give an equal amount
<br />
