<br />- 70 <br />~ <br />\1- <br />- <br />- ORDINANCE 1991- 19 <br /> AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br /> MARCOS, TEXAS, AMENDING CHAPTER NINE, ELECTRICAL <br /> CODE, OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS CODE OF ORDINANCES, <br /> TO ADO PT THE 199Ø NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE; ADDING <br /> ALTERNATIVE LICENSING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE <br /> ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR, DELETING THE REQUIREMENT FOR <br /> ELECTRICIAN TEST VALIDATION; PROVIDING FOR THE <br /> EXPIRATION OF ELECTRICAL LICENSES ON THE LICENSEE'S <br /> BIRTH MONTH AND REVISING THE LANGUAGE WITH REGARD <br /> TO THE ISSUANCE OF ELECTRICAL LICENSES; REMOVING <br /> THE FEE SCHEDULES; AMENDING SECTION 9-7.1 REGARDING <br /> THE USE OF NONMETALLIC-SHEATHED CABLE AND METAL <br /> CONDUIT; REQUIRING THAT ALL STRUCTURES BRING <br /> ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS INTO COMPLIANCE <br /> WITH APPLICABLE CODE PROVISIONS WHENEVER THERE IS A <br /> CHANGE IN THE OCCUPANCY CLASSIFICATION OF THE <br /> STRUCTURE; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; REPEALING <br /> ALL CONFLICTING ORDINANCES; PROVIDING A PENALTY; <br /> PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION AND PROVIDING AN <br /> EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br /> MARCOS, TEXAS : <br /> SECTION 1. That Section 9-1 of the San Marcos Code of <br /> Ordinances is amended to read as follows: <br /> Sec. 9-1. National code adopted. <br /> There is hereby adopted by the City for the purpose of <br /> establishing rules and regulations for the safe installation <br /> and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems, the <br /> National Electrical Code, 199Ø edition, save and except such <br /> portions as are hereinafter deleted, modified, or amended, of <br /> which a copy is on file with tne city secretary and a copy is <br /> on file with the building inspection division and the same is <br /> hereby adopted and incorporated as fully as if set out at <br /> length herein, and from the date on which this section shall <br /> take effect, the provisions thereof shall be controlling in <br /> the installation of electrical systems within the corporate <br /> limits of the city. <br /> SECTION 2. That Sections 9-1.1 and 9-1.2 of the San <br /> Marcos Code of Ordinances are hereby deleted in their <br /> entirety. <br /> SECTION 3. That subsection (b) of Section 9-3 is hereby <br /> amended to add alternative licensing requirements of the <br /> electrical inspector, to read as follows: <br /> (b) The Electrical Inspector shall possess: <br /> 1. A Master Electrician's License, issued by the City <br /> and obtained through testing or reciprocal <br /> agreement; or <br /> 2. Four (4) years experience as journeyman electrician <br /> licensed by the City and certification as an <br /> electrical inspector by the Southern Building Code <br /> Congress International (SBCCI), International <br /> Conference of Building Officials (ICBO), or <br /> International Association of Electrical Inspectors <br /> (IAEI). <br /> The Electrical Inspector shall be well versed in the <br /> National Electrical Code and the contents of this Chapter and <br /> the Code of Ordinances of the City. <br />
