These organizations
will include the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Hays
County Women's Center, the San Marcos Ministerial
Association, LULAC, local Parent-Teacher Organizations, the
San Marcos Manufacturers' Association, the San Marcos
Minorities Commission and other appropriate church and
civic organizations.

2)

We will design and distribute bilingual (Spanish-English)
fliers to advertise the ESL tutoring program, the new
story time program and the social services fair. The fliers
will be distributed through churches, stores, restaurants,
community centers and social service agencies which serve
the Hispanic community. Public service announcements about
these activities will also be placed in our two local
newspapers and on the local radio and cable television
stations.

3)

We will design and distribute a bilingual directory of
social service agencies. The directory will be clearly
identified as a product of the library and users will be
encouraged to call the library for more information if they
need it. The directories will be distributed as above.
In addition, the library's adult education and ESL tutors
will provide the directories to their students.

4)

We will use feature articles in the two local newspapers,
talks to civic organizations and an existing brochur~ to
recruit volunteers for our tutoring program. We will also
place public service announcements on the local radio and
cable television stations.

PROJECT TIMETABLE

March 1988

Grant proposal is authorized by the San
Marcos City Council and submitted to the
Texas State Library (TSL).

July 1988

TSL awards Title I grants.

September 1988

Project funding cycle begins.

~aterials and shelving for the Lifelong
Learning Collection are selected and
ordered.

ESL tutor training materials are ordered.

Library presentations to organizations
begin.
