<br />Narrative <br />page-ll <br /> <br />l) <br /> <br />VIII. <br /> <br />We will make presentations about the library to at least <br />ten civic organizations which work closely with those who <br />speak English as a second language. These organizations <br />will include the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Hays <br />County Women's Center, the San Marcos Ministerial <br />Association, LULAC, local Parent-Teacher Organizations, the <br />San Marcos Manufacturers' Association, the San Marcos <br />Minorities Commission and other appropriate church and <br />civic organizations. <br /> <br />2) <br /> <br />We will design and distribute bilingual (Spanish-English) <br />fliers to advertise the ESL tutoring program, the new <br />story time program and the social services fair. The fliers <br />will be distributed through churches, stores, restaurants, <br />community centers and social service agencies which serve <br />the Hispanic community. Public service announcements about <br />these activities will also be placed in our two local <br />newspapers and on the local radio and cable television <br />stations. <br /> <br />3) <br /> <br />We will design and distribute a bilingual directory of <br />social service agencies. The directory will be clearly <br />identified as a product of the library and users will be <br />encouraged to call the library for more information if they <br />need it. The directories will be distributed as above. <br />In addition, the library's adult education and ESL tutors <br />will provide the directories to their students. <br /> <br />4) <br /> <br />We will use feature articles in the two local newspapers, <br />talks to civic organizations and an existing brochur~ to <br />recruit volunteers for our tutoring program. We will also <br />place public service announcements on the local radio and <br />cable television stations. <br /> <br />PROJECT TIMETABLE <br /> <br />March 1988 <br /> <br />Grant proposal is authorized by the San <br />Marcos City Council and submitted to the <br />Texas State Library (TSL). <br /> <br />July 1988 <br /> <br />TSL awards Title I grants. <br /> <br />September 1988 <br /> <br />Project funding cycle begins. <br /> <br />~aterials and shelving for the Lifelong <br />Learning Collection are selected and <br />ordered. <br /> <br />ESL tutor training materials are ordered. <br /> <br />Library presentations to organizations <br />begin. <br />
