<br />-5- <br /> <br />ARTICLE III-FIRE DEPARTMENT <br /> <br />. . . <br /> <br />DIVISION 2. SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT SERVICES-- <br />EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES <br /> <br />Sec. 21-43. <br /> <br />Purposes. <br /> <br />The purposes of this division are: <br /> <br />(1) To provide back-up emergency medical services to San <br />Marcos-Hays County Emergency Medical Services, Inc. <br />or its successor, through the provision of emergency <br />medical technician services and ambulance driver <br />services for the second-call ambulance operated by the <br />City of San Marcos Fire Department; <br /> <br />(2) To distribute services duty equitably among <br />fire department employees of the San <br />Department; <br /> <br />the qualified <br />Marcos Fire <br /> <br />(3) To ensure that employees performing services are in an <br />on-duty status for purposes of workers' compensation, <br />health and medical, disability, pension and retirement <br />coverages and benefits and all other related purposes; <br /> <br />(4) To provide a <br />services. <br /> <br />uniform <br /> <br />rate of <br /> <br />pay <br /> <br />for <br /> <br />performance <br /> <br />of <br /> <br />Sec. 21-44. <br /> <br />Assignments, number and qualifications <br />employees, hours of service, and supervision. <br /> <br />of <br /> <br />(a) Up to nine (9) fire department employees holding the rank <br />of firefighter or driver/engineer and holding valid <br />certification by the Texas Department of Health as <br />emergency medical technicians, selected and assigned by <br />the Fire Chief shall perform special assignment <br />services duty under this division. <br /> <br />(b) Special assignment services duty shifts shall be assigned <br />monthly on a rotation basis so as to equitably distribute <br />special assignment services duty among selected fire <br />department personnel. <br /> <br />(c) Special assignment services under this division shall be <br />performed in twenty-four (24) hour shifts during the <br />firefighters' and/or driver/engineers' regular twenty-four <br />(24) hour duty shifts with the fire department, and such <br />special assignment services personnel shall at all times <br />while on special assignment services duty continue to <br />perform their regular fire department functions and duties <br />when not actively engaged in the performance of such <br />special assignment services; <br /> <br />(d) Fire department employees, while on duty for special <br />assignment services, shall remain under the supervision of <br />the officer or employee in charge of the fire station <br />and/or fire department even when actively engaged in the <br />provision of back-up emergency medical services to San <br />Marcos-Hays County Emergency Medical Services, Inc. <br />or its successors. <br /> <br />(e) Fire department personnel while receiving assignments to <br />perform services under this division, are ineligible to <br />receive assignments for the performance of any other types <br />of special assignment services under this chapter. <br />Fire department personnel relieved of monthly <br />assignments for services under this division may <br />become eligible to receive assignments for the <br />performance of another type of special assignment service, <br />subject to the satisfaction of all qualifications, <br />recommendation, and selection requirements for each type <br />of special assignment service and subject to the <br />director's determination of the necessity for any and <br />
