development to warrant water service in the year 1990. Additional
lines will be run from the standpipe on McCarty Lane at the 770
foot contour to connect it to the existing San Marcos water system.
This standpipe will be considered as a water source for the study
area. The second phase will involve all of the system west of
IH-35 and that part of the system close to IH-35 on the east side.
These areas are expected to develop sufficiently by 1995 to
warrant service. The remaining area of the basin east of IH-35 is
not expected to develop until after 1995, therefore it will not be
provided water service until phase III.

C.

Water Supply

The Edwards Aquifer extends into the study area and is presently
used by the City as the source for all water supply. The yield
from existing wells indicates 1,000-1,500 gpm can normally be
obtained without excessive drawdov,ll of the aquifer water level.
For this report 1,000 gpm Vvill be assumed to be the design yield
of new wells.

The proposed water supply facilities should be designed to supply
peak daily demand. At least two wells should be provided for
reliability. Initially the City indicated that they planned to
develop a well supply, storage, and pumping site near the inter-
section of McCarty Lane and Hunter Road. This location is not
permanently set but facilities will be located in this gereral area.
This site is to be referred to as Well Site A. It was then decided
that additional wells and storage facilities needed to be located
within the Lowmans' Ranch development. This was due to the
adjusted demand as well as the higher elevations in that secion of
the study area. A new development was also considering
construction of a well and an additional standpipe at the 770 foot
contour on McCarty Lane. These facilities were also incorporated
into the ultimate system supply. These locations are well suited to
supply water to the study area.

JONES a NEuSe:

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
)

./

24
