<br /> improvement. <br /> ANALYSIS OF QUESTIONAIRE RETURNS INDICATES THE FOLLOWING RESPONSE PATTERNS: <br /> Citizen perception of downtown parking access was quite unflattering <br /> with 82% of respondents identifying varing degrees of parking difficulty and <br /> 11% indicating that they no longer attempted to park downtown. <br /> The lack of adequate street signs in San Marcos was identified as a <br /> problem by 78% of respondents with 30% citing such lack as a serious <br /> problem. <br /> As to the condition of street and road surfaces in San Marcos, 43% felt <br /> that the street conditions were mostly good with a few bad spots, however <br /> 49% of respondents perceived many bad street conditions throughout the city. <br /> A majority of those responding (53%) felt that the street lighting in <br /> their neighborhood was too low while 46% felt that it was about right. <br /> The San Marcos Public Library was perceived as providing good services <br /> by 62% of respondents and 77% of respondents had a current library card. <br /> Hours of operation were favorably perceived by 60% of respondents. Only in <br /> the area the availability of reading materials of the respondents choice did <br /> this favorable perception diminish with 53% rating choice of materials fair <br /> to poor. <br /> The Parks and Recreation program of the City seemed to suffer from a <br /> lack of respondent knowledge and use. 72% of respondents had never taken <br /> advantage of City sponsored recreation classes and 88% rated parks and <br /> recreational opportunities in their immediate area as fair to poor.
