<D1S'J1UU1fl'S 'l'O AJ:RP(Rf ~
SJiIC'Plaf -.riI)

AIRPmT Ml6lm PIM
SAN MARXS, 'lEXAS

Bnv.in:.'BIlI!!!IItal CcDstraints

It must be recognized from the outset that the community of Reedvi1le,
located approximately one mile southeast of the departure end of
Runway 30, is a real and considerable constraint to airport
developnent. It is fortunate that the existing airport facilities are
adequate for most aircraft that can be reasonably expected to use the
facilities within the next decade. However, it must also be
recognized that the long term development plan must include facilities
capable of accommodating the full ranqe of jet and turbo/prop aircraft
within the general aviation fleet, and which appear to be strong
candidates to use the facilities. This would suggest a runway
extension on those runways which are most likely to be used, i.e.,
Runway 12-30. An Instrument Landi.nq System (ILS) was also installed
a1 Runway 12. '1hese improvements will result in increased numbers of
aircraft usinq that runway in the years to come.

Reedvi.lle must be ccnsi.dered as a potentially constraining influence
to the development of a lonqer runway on the 12-30 orientation. The
extent of this c.xmstrai.ninq influence is impossible to measure since
there may be no objection within the community to airport
improvements. However, any proposed action which does appear to have
an impact on the community should be fully considered prior to its
implementation and a detailed assessment should be made of its
potential impact.

Gary Jd) COr:ps O:utcL

At the present time, Gary Job Corps Center has legal possession of a
substantial amount of aircraft parking apron, as well as a number of
support buildings and facilities adjacent to the flight line.
Althouqh the demand for these facilities in terms of aviation need
is minimal at present, it should be recognized that in the years to
oome, the cost to construct new aircraft aprons and facilities
adjacent to them will be substantially greater than at the present
time. In Secticn 'lhree of this report, minimum facility requirements
for the twenty year planning period have been prepared, and it has
been determined that the existing aircraft parking apron and adjacent
flight line area is inadequate for the long term development needs for
civilian flight activities.

An effort should be made to recover the facilities and aircraft
parking apron from GaJ:y Job COrps Center, and the airport development
plan should include those areas and identify them as being available

2.1
