<br />SAMPLING <br /> <br />PURPOSE: <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />To obtain representative samples of industrial waste discharged <br />into the sanitary sewer system and, under certain circumstances, <br />into the storm sewer and watarcourse systems of the City of San <br />Marcos. <br /> <br />2. <br /> <br />To reobtain, upon request by a discharger, with <br />Director or his/her authorized representative, <br />samples of industrial waste discharged into the <br />and, under certain circumstances, into the storm <br />course systems of the City of San Marcos. <br /> <br />approval of the <br />representative <br />sanitary sewer <br />sewer and water <br /> <br />Procedure: <br /> <br />I. <br /> <br />Surcharge Sampling <br />Sampling industrial waste discharges requires the sampling of <br /> <br />1. <br />2. <br /> <br />Sanitary sewer discharges, <br /> <br />Storm sewer and/or watercourse system discharges for those <br />locations converting their discharges from the storm sewer <br />and/or a watercourse system to the sanitary sewer system; on <br />authorized special studies; and at the request of the San <br />Marcos - Hays County Health Department. <br /> <br />3. <br /> <br />Dual discharges. <br /> <br />The preliminary sampling schedule is established by the <br />Director or his/her authorized representative. However, the <br />actual sampling as carried out may modify the schedule with <br />the amount of modification dependent upon the success rate <br />in obtaining representative samples, the number and kind of <br />approved requests for special sampling, and the other job <br />duties that may intervene in the time originally allotted <br />for sampling. <br /> <br />Only -Approved Methods., as defined in the Industrial Waste <br />Ordinance, may be sued to obtain, prepare and store samples. <br /> <br />Proper standards of care must be used in the entire sampling <br />process. This includes the proper safeguarding of both the <br />equipment set up in the field and the sources being sampled. <br />This is accomplished by locking all the equipment set up in <br />the field and setting up any necessary warning signs, cones, <br />hazard lights, etc., that would keep the sampling process, <br />apparatus and source from becoming a hazard. <br /> <br />-70- <br />
