2

meetings, but due to lack of funding and other priorities

the project was tabled.

Presently, the proposed construction of the San Marcos

Loop will take 10 to 15 years to complete.

One overpass

was estimated to take approximately five years to complete.

This is a problem that needs to be solved immediately and

cannot wait five years or through any other possible delays.

In the prior proposal Wonder World Drive or FM 3407

were suggested for the possible construction of the overpass.

Regulations for the construction caused problems.

In an

interview with city officals four members were informed

that 120 to 140 feet were required for the right-of-way;

this was not possible at that location.

Also regulation

on purchasing the land had to also be considered.

The overpass did not offer an immediate solution and

was too costly to the city.

Public opinion is supportive

of an overpass, but we learned that it would be difficult

to fund such a project.

Our research concerning a trauma center showed that it

also is going to be expensive.

A city offical estimated

that a trauma center would cost approximately $1.5 million.

In a phone interview with the Director of Material Manage-

ment in Corpus Christi at Memorial Medical told us that a

rough estimate for one room in a trauma center would cost

approximately $18,000; this includes the administrative

equipment, the examining and treatment tables and monitoring

systems, but instruments are not included.

A room without

administrative equipment would roughly cost $11,000.
