Special emphasis will be placed upon determination of the
airports historical relationship to the community and the surrounding
area, and it's role in the system of airports in the vicinity. This
emphasis is placed due to the dynamic nature of the area and the
relationship that the airport will have with the rapidly urbanizing
environs in the years to come. The development of new land uses in
the immediate vicinity of the airport, in combination with expanding
airport needs, and the special relationship between the City and the
Gary Job Corps Center have great relevance in the long term airport
development program, and deserves special attention in the inventory
phase of the study.
Special attention will also be given to the future role that
the airport will play in the system of airport serving the Austin-San
Marcos-San Antonio Corridor.
The review and data collection effort will be a continuing
function throughout the course of the Study.
Task 2 - Review and Update Aviation Activity Forecasts
As a result of the very substantial changes in aviation
acti vity at San Marcos since 1981, when the original Airport Master
Plan was developed, it will be necessary to update forecasts of future
acti vity.
Future facil ity requirements will be determined, in 1 a rge
measure, by aviation demand generated within the air trade area
serviced by the airport. The forecasts will be developed in specific
categories, in five year increments over a 20 year time period.
The forecasting methodology will employ both multiple
regression techniques and a share of the market analysis. Through
prevlous studies conducted in north and central Texas, a set of
operational parameters have been established that are unique to the
geographic area. The methodology utilizes population, disposable
income and employment data as correlaries.
Forecasts wi 11 be developed in the fo 11 owi ng specifi c
categories.
> Total Aircraft Operations (annual, daily) including
instrument operations.
> Genera 1 Aviation/Business Aircraft Operations (annual,
daily).
> Local and Itinerant Operations, including military.
> Aircraft Mix, including helicopters.
