City Council Meeting Minutes December 2, 2014 <br />support of the Partnership. He stated that it is not easy to create a public - private partnership <br />that works and yet San Marcos has done it. He stated that since he arrived in 2011 that the last 2 <br />years have been very successful with great leadership in place. He thanked the Council for their <br />continued support. <br />Robert McDonald, addressed the Council regarding the Greater San Marcos Partnership and <br />spoke as a founding member of the Partnership. As a lead investor he has invested $250,000 <br />over 5 years in the Partnership. His goal is to keep folks here and creating jobs. The GSMP is <br />critical to the success of his Whisper TX business park. He stated that they have taken a <br />magnanimous approach at how Economic Development should be done. Our regional is healthy <br />and San Marcos benefits more than anyone else in the area. <br />Lee Graham, addressed the Council about the assistance that was provided to Mensor <br />Corporation when they started working on their expansion by the Greater San Marcos <br />Partnership. GSMP took the lead on their ground breaking on the expansion. Once construction <br />started they found an issue with a sidewalk requirement and they were able to work through it <br />thanks to the Council. If it wasn't for the Partnership they may not have expanded in San <br />Marcos. He stated that the Council needs them to help market San Marcos. <br />Rayne Guest, addressed the Council regarding the greater San Marcos Partnership and her <br />expansion to San Marcos from California. She stated that if the Council was to take something <br />like this away that it would be a step in the wrong direction. <br />Kevin Carswell, thanked the Council for funding the Greater San Marcos Partnership. The one <br />thing that is constantly stated is that higher paying jobs need to be here in San Marcos. He has <br />seen that the more active we are the more traffic we'll see coming to San Marcos and it is <br />important to be thinking about Greater San Marcos Partnership. <br />Don Eyssen, spoke in opposition to the Greater San Marcos Partnership. He asked why it was <br />necessary to pay a consultant $180,000 for a study. He stated that growth is not always positive, <br />and mentioned a 95 page document about MUDS and the municipal bond market that he <br />provided to the Council on the dais. <br />Fred Heldenfels, spoke in support of the Greater San Marcos Partnership. He stated that they've <br />been blessed to grow with this community. He has served on EDSM, Austin Chamber and these <br />involvements have provided him with greater insight as to how important the Greater San <br />Marcos Partnership is. He stated that their staff are recognized regional partners and that the <br />results speak for themselves. That's led to over 900 jobs created in San Marcos. He asked the <br />Council to please send the right message by continuing to invest in the Partnership. <br />Meagan McCoy Jones, came out to speak passionately about what they believe in in the support <br />of the Greater San Marcos Partnership. She stated that she was thrilled that Market Street was <br />able to start drafting a plan for the partnership and San Marcos. She stated that Adriana has <br />been a great leader for San Marcos. As an investor and business owner they know that what is <br />best is when the stake holders can maximize their support of the Partnership. <br />Lonnie Hall, addressed the Council on behalf of Gary Job Corp and their support of the Greater <br />San Marcos Partnership. He stated that he assures the Council that GSMP has done great things <br />on behalf of San Marcos and will continue to do so. He assured the Council that they have been <br />good stewards of the funds that they are provided. He was on the board in the early days and <br />that they have been running fast and furious since Adriana took the reins. As a workforce <br />provider they have been asked to provide training to companies locating here and they look <br />forward to those partnerships.
