City Council Meeting Minutes August 2, 2016 <br />Jay Hiebert, 209 W Sierra Circle, his objections include what others have <br />already stated. He referenced that yesterday the Hydrologist for HEB stated <br />that he didn't know what the capacity would be able to hold in regards to the <br />retention pond.:. He provided several other objections. One being that this <br />store would be too small to handle the amount of people that it would receive. <br />He provided more about the arguments that HEB should locate at the McCarty <br />location and that it would make more sense there. <br />Steve Hernandez, 1112 Farris St, he is a survivor of several floods. He stated <br />that he is a BISM (born in San Marcos) resident. He spoke about his concerns <br />for the flooding and that this would be a bad idea. He stated that we have been <br />confronted and impacted by the negligence of some and asked the Council to <br />not approve this project. <br />Eric Casillas, 250 S Stagecoach, he stated that leaving this as a green space <br />would be better. He doesn't feel that this is a good option. <br />Tom Wassenich, 11 Tanglewood, the Land Development Code is coming in <br />about 4 months. Why would you vote for something that will not be allowed <br />after the new code is adopted? <br />Christina Orta, 227 Knox Street, addressed the Council and spoke against the <br />request and asked the Council to vote their common sense. She stated that she <br />has the same concerns as everyone else and feels that City is fading fast and <br />asked the Council to say no. <br />Robin Orta, 227, Knox Street, stated that the reason that he is against it is the <br />possible grave desecration that could occur due to Native Americans being <br />buried there, and that the possible flooding. He stated that he is not against <br />:HEB, but would like them to not approve the item. <br />There being no further comments, Mayor Guerrero closed the Public Hearing <br />at 8:18 p.m. <br />Motion to Deny: A motion was made by Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Prewitt, <br />seconded by Council Member Derrick, that Ordinance 2016 -19 be denied. The <br />motion failed by the following vote: <br />For: 2 - Deputy Mayor Pro Tern Prewitt and Council Member Derrick <br />Against: 5 - Mayor Guerrero, Mayor Pro -Tem Thomaides, Council Member Prather, Council <br />Member Hughson and Council Member Gregson <br />City of San Marcos Page 9 <br />
