1998 Review Committee Report Page 7
PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD
Reviewed by: Jerry Sebek and Wayland Endsley
The Parks and Recreation Board is comprised of nine members. This board advises and
recommends to the City Council in matters regarding acquisition, development, improvement,
equipment and maintenance of all City parks, playgrounds and facilities.
Observations
The Parks and Recreation Board has a very broad area of responsibilities. The board members
presented their ideas in an organized, informed and professional manner. During the meeting a
citizen complaint was presented, and the board did an excellent job in handling this issue.
Recommendation
No change
PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION
Reviewed by: Bryan McClung and Kay Stott
The Planning and Zoning Commission is composed of nine members. This board ensures the
planned and purposeful development of the City of San Marcos and its extraterritorial
jurisdiction, in order to protect the integrity of our natural resources and neighborhoods and to
enforce State and local statutes and ordinances.
Observations
The Planning and Zoning Commission provides a public forum for proposed development code
changes. One reviewer stated that the Commission seemed unprepared to effectively respond to
citizen inquiries.
Recommendation
One reviewer recommends "no change" and the other reviewer recommends that the board
membership include a realtor or an attorney to deal with real estate law issues.
