<br />138. <br /> <br />Regular Meeting <br /> <br />August 13, 2001 <br /> <br />Page 7 <br /> <br />Mayor Chiu introduced for consideration approval of an Ordinance on first <br />reading, the caption which was read as follows: <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, <br />AMENDING CHAPTER 2 OF THE CITY CODE TO RETIRE THE HUMAN DEVELOPMENT <br />COMMISSION, THE ELECTRIC UTILITY BOARD, AND THE BOND ADVISORY <br />COMMITTEE; MAKING OTHER CONFORMING AMENDMENTS TO THE CITY CODE; AND <br />INCLUDING PROCEDURAL PROVISIONS. <br /> <br />Ms. Hughson moved for approval of the Ordinance on first reading and to <br />amend the Ordinance to delete Sections 1 and 3 and Mr. Mihalkanin seconded <br />the motion, which passed unanimously. Ms. Hughson stated she is okay with <br />removing the Fair Housing duties from the duties of the Human Development <br />Commission. Ms. Hughson stated it takes time for a group to work well <br />together and thinks it would be okay if they do not meet every month if <br />there is not a need to do so. Ms. Hughson expressed the need for the <br />Human Development Commission to exist for the continuance of the Women's <br />Hall of Fame and possibly the Youth Hall of Fame. Ms. Hughson wants the <br />Bond Advisory Committee to continue and is happy for the Committee to keep <br />an eye on the bond projects. Ms. Hughson inquired if Human Development <br />Commission meets every month and if they can cancel a meeting if it is not <br />needed. Ms. Coughlin advised they do not meet every month. The Council <br />voted unanimously for approval of the Ordinance on first reading. <br /> <br />Mayor Chiu introduced for consideration approval of an Ordinance on first <br />reading, the caption which was read as follows: <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, <br />AMENDING CHAPTER 2 OF THE CITY CODE TO CONVERT THE CEMETERY <br />COMMISSION, THE DRAINAGE ADVISORY BOARD AND THE SENIOR CITIZEN <br />ADVISORY BOARD TO STAFF ADVISORY BOARDS, MAKING OTHER CONFORMING <br />AMENDMENTS TO THE CITY CODE; AND INCLUDING PROCEDURAL PROVISIONS. <br /> <br />Mr. Mayhew moved for approval of the Ordinance on first reading and Ms. <br />Tatum seconded the motion. Mr. Mihalkanin asked what difference there <br />would be from City Council Boards to Staff Boards. Mr. Gilley stated <br />Staff would appoint and oversee the Boards. Ms. Hughson asked what ex- <br />officious may be needed to serve on the Senior Citizen Advisory Board. <br />Mr. Gilley will check and report back at the second reading of the <br />ordinance.
