City Council Meeting Minutes February 24, 2021 <br />numbers since some testing sites were closed. He stated that staff will continue <br />to promote masking up and keep social distancing. Council Member Garza <br />stated we should encourage the public to test, if feeling sick especially due to <br />the new variants. <br />Mayor Hughson inquired about extra personal protective equipment (PPE) to <br />hand out during a distribution of items if someone forgot their mask? Mr. <br />Stapp stated he will do a inventory check for public distribution for PPE. Mr. <br />Stapp mentioned that he was pleased with the volunteers wearing their masks <br />during the distribution of water. <br />Council Member Gonzales asked if citizens can call to make an appointment <br />to get vaccinated? Mr. Stapp stated there is a phone number provided. Council <br />Member Gonzales inquired about transportation. Mr. Stapp stated the vaccine <br />distributions are in vans to go to areas that don't have transportation. <br />Regarding the Governor's COVID 19 Rental Relief Program Mayor Pro Tem <br />Derrick noted that people who want to apply need to know what that 80% <br />number of median area income is to determine if they should complete the <br />application or not. Mr. Stapp took note of the suggestion and will pass it on to <br />staff. <br />Council Member Baker expressed concern with the predications of the increase <br />in cases during the winter storm. He apologized to staff and only offers critical <br />concerns from constituents. He also expressed concern with the rate of <br />fatalities and applauded the Chamber of Commerce for the rapid testing sent <br />to business on <br />a first come basis program. Council Member Baker expressed concern that the <br />information was not provided in Spanish and would like for staff to work with <br />the Chamber to have Spanish speaking owners get an opportunity. Would like <br />for employers to provide effective PPE to employees. <br />Council Member Gleason iterated what Mayor Pro Tem Derrick stated <br />regarding the Rental Relief Program, that is very critical and to release the <br />expectations of the program would be helpful. He thanked staff and the <br />community that helped last week and saw volunteers and staff being safe while <br />volunteering to help the citizens. <br />Council Member Garza thanked staff and mentioned that city leaders <br />modeling the guidelines is effective. She also thanked VFW that had masks and <br />hand sanitizers available and Mr. Prather that expressed mask covering. <br />City of San Marcos Page 4 <br />
