35 <br /> <br />Regular Meeting <br /> <br />November 8, 1982 <br /> <br />Page 4 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS, AMENDING DIVISION 2, ENTITLED "TEXAS <br />MUNICIPAL RETIREMENT SYSTEM" OF ARTICLE III, ENTITLED <br />"CIVIL SERVICE AND EMPLOYEE BENEFITS" OF CHAPTER 2 OF <br />THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF SAID CITY TO PROVIDE FOR <br />PARTICIPATION OF SAID CITY IN THE SUPPLEMENTAL DEATH <br />BEFITS FUND OF THE TEXAS MUNICIPAL RETIREMENT SYSTEM, <br />TO PROVIDE CERTAIN IN-SERVICE DEATH BENEFITS FOR EM- <br />PLOYEES AND DEATH BENEFITS FOR ANNUITANTS WHOSE LAST <br />EMPLOYMENT BEFORE RETIREMENT WAS WITH SAID CITY AND <br />DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />Mrs. Norris moved to approve the Ordinance on first reading and Mr. <br />Brown seconded the motion. Mr. Gary Anderson of the Texas Municipal <br />Retirement System advised the Council the coverage would be for all <br />employees of the City. He said the death benefit, which would be <br />the last 12 months' salary of the employee, would be paid to the bene- <br />ficiary in a lump sum benefit. Retired employees, whose last employ- <br />ment was with the City prior to retirement, would have a death benefit <br />in the amount of $2,500 paid in a lump sum to the beneficiary. He <br />stated that the death benefits and service credit ordinance (the next <br />ordinance to be considered by the Council) was 5.22 percent of the <br />total gross salary. The Council approved the Ordinance unanimously <br />on first reading. <br /> <br />Mayor Craddock introduced for consideration approval of an Ordinance <br />on first reading, the caption which was read as follows: <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS, AMENDING DIVISION 2, ENTITLED "TEXAS <br />MUNICIPAL RETIREMENT SYSTEM" OF ARTICLE III, ENTITLED <br />"CIVIL SERVICE AND EMPLOYEE BENEFITS" OF CHAPTER 2 OF <br />THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF SAID CITY BY AUTHORIZING <br />AND ALLOWING, UNDER THE ACT GOVERNING THE TEXAS MUNI- <br />CIPAL RETIREMENT SYSTEM, 'UPDATED SERVICE CREDITS' IN <br />SAID SYSTEM FOR SERVICE PERFORMED BY QUALIFYING MEM- <br />BERS OF SUCH SYSTEM IN THE EMPLOYMENT OF SAID CITY; <br />PROVIDING FOR INCREASED PRIOR AND CURRENT SERVICE <br />ANNUITIES FOR RETIREES AND BENEFICIARIES OF DECEASED <br />RETIREES OF SAID CITY; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />Mrs. Norris moved to approve the Ordinance on first reading and Mr. <br />Kreczmer seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />Mayor Craddock introduced for consideration approval of an Ordinance <br />on first reading, the caption which was read as follows: <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS, REPEALING ORDINANCE 81-76 ADOPTED <br />SEPTEMBER 28, 1981, WHICH GRANTED A FIVE (5) YEAR <br />FRANCHISE TO ARMADILLO EXPRESS TO OPERATE AND MAIN- <br />TAIN A VEHICLE FOR THE TRANSPORTATION OF PERSONS <br />AND PROPERTY UPON THE PUBLIC STREETS AND HIGHWAYS <br />OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS TO AND FROM POINTS OUTSIDE <br />SAID CITY AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />Mr. Farr moved for approval of the Ordinance on first reading and Mrs. <br />Mendez seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. <br /> <br /> <br />
