Other Input <br />Respondents provided additional thoughts and suggestions regarding arts and culture in San Marcos. <br />Funding and City involvement. Many participants provided feedback regarding more financial and City <br />support for the arts. <br />“Funding for Arts & Culture beyond HOT tax! A&C are economic engines on their own.” <br /> “SM Arts and Culture will struggle until SM establishes and budgets for an actual <br />high-level Arts and Culture dept with non-tourism dependent funding.” <br />“More grants should go to spotlight our Hill Country roots.” <br /> “Perhaps the city could take a stronger position in supporting the arts, as a way to build civic <br />pride and help heal the political divides.” <br /> “The city needs to drive one central agenda or provide appropriate support for another <br />organization to do so.” <br />Collaboration and advertising.Workshop participants remarked on the need for building relationships <br />within the community and increasing awareness. <br /> “A big priority for me would be bringing together the college communities and the <br />established older communities.” <br /> “Involve the high school in some way.” <br /> “Need to do more to get exposure to all age groups to promote interest.” <br /> “Advertise your events on social media in a week in advance!” <br />Diversity and inclusion. Respondents also submitted feedback in regards to wanting to see more cultural <br />inclusiveness in arts and culture activities. <br /> “I would love to see music and dance from other cultures, similar to what they have at <br />Esquina Tango in Austin.” <br /> “… I would love to see more spread throughout our community, especially our <br />underrepresented populations.” <br /> “More black inclusion. Highlight the culture that has been buried.” <br /> “Highlight significant local artists and movements throughout San Marcos’ history.” <br />Venues and amenities.Participants also gave suggestions for venues that would benefit the City. <br /> “Need to seriously look at supplemental parking downtown.” <br /> “Austin is a disappointment in terms of the museum culture, would love to see <br />San Marcos have a great museum that would bring Central Texas here.” <br /> “San Marcos would be a good place for an Art Space.
