5 <br />Accessibility <br />Facilitate parking and enhance safety near the Square. <br />Transform city alleyways into cultural passageways with public art, murals, and <br />illumination at night. <br />Arts Education <br />Encourage and support K-12 arts program in thepublic schools with dedicated <br />art teaches at each elementary and middle school. <br />Strengthen partnerships with arts educators, arts resource providers and the <br />University. <br />Supprt and advance lifelong and intergenerational education in the arts. <br />Funding <br />Implement a “Percent for the Arts” program to fund public art installations. <br />Increase the appropriation of Hotel Occupancy Tax Funds for the arts. <br />City Involvement <br />Promote a variety of cultural activities and attractions in the downtown area. <br />Include the development of a central arts district, an Arts & Cultural Center, and <br />Art in Public Places policy in the City’s Comprehensive Master Plan. <br />Allocate funding for a Cultural Activities Coordinator to develop the strategy and <br />model to implement a vibrant city cultural arts program. <br />Promotion and Advocacy <br />Develop a cohesive cultural agenda and arts calendar. <br />Develop an interactive and communicative arts website that allows for easy <br />linkages to various arts and cultural venues and events. <br />Create an affiliate multi-disciplinary arts organization in San Marcos that serves <br />as an advocacy organization for the arts. <br />Develop a strategy for using the arts to define San Marcos as an arts destination <br />to promote tourism. <br />Events <br />Hold a fine arts festival involving everyone inthe arts community (visual, <br />performing, etc.). <br />Expand the incorporation of the arts into the Farmers Market with music, crafts, <br />and publicity. <br /> <br />
