It will <br />provide a friendly presence and a reminder. <br />Pam Couch reported she had attended Miller Jr. High for Eating Disorder Week and <br />viewed a slide slow on awareness. It was noted that 82% of 10 year olds are worried <br />about being fat. This is a problem that hits men and women, boys and girls. She was <br />sad to say she was the only one in attendance. She strongly recommended that parents <br />attend if this is offered again. She also got to read to some 2 and 3 year olds at the Early <br />Childhood Development Center. She also attended the ribbon cutting of new Good Will <br />store with the Mayor on Saturday. She closed her report with a reminder to everyone to <br />vote. <br />Gaylord Bose reported this was the first time in his life he had to stand in line to vote on <br />Friday. 900 voters showed up on Friday, 700 on Thursday. He reminded everyone that <br />tomorrow is Election Day and to get out and do their civic duty. He expressed sorrow on <br />the passing of Johnnie Armstead and said she was a real ambassador for the city. He <br />noted she had represented the City Council on several occasions, and we will miss a great <br />citizen. <br />Daniel Guerrero also gave condolences to the family of Johnnie Armstead and said she <br />was a wonderful woman who had San Marcos in middle of her heart. She left a legacy <br />here and will not be forgotten. Mr. Guerrero also expressed condolences to the family of <br />David Leij a and MESA. He said it was so sad to see a young leader leave our <br />community so tragically. He reported that the science extravaganza has been rescheduled <br />to March 29. Mr. Guerrero thanked all the citizens and city employees who were part of <br />the planning process for the visit by Senator Barak Obama. <br />John Thomaides also gave condolences to the Armstead family. He noted that Johnnie <br />was a special person in San Marcos, and he often got phone calls from her and first two <br />words were "how come" leading into long conversations on how San Marcos does things. <br />He said she taught him many history lessons of San Marcos. She was also a great advisor <br />to those on council and really cared about the people in the community. He was also <br />shocked to hear of Mr. Leij a and his tragic auto accident in west Texas. He reported that <br />next week he, along with the Mayor, Ms. Couch and Mr. Jones, will be traveling to <br />Washington D.C. to lobby for federal funds. He is going up a day early and will be <br />attending the leadership training institute. The last class is on Sunday, and he will be <br />receiving his diploma. He is proud of that and thanked the citizens for sending him. <br />Susan Narvaiz, stated everyone has special memories of Johnnie Armstead. She was <br />happy to report that the county was given the opportunity to keep $13 3 million for roads, <br />and we can continue to move forward without losing those dollars. She also participated <br />in two Eagle Scout ceremonies and has invited them to attend a council meeting to do <br />flag ceremony and share their Eagle project with us.
