C.J. Morgan, Student Liaison, reported the Association of Student Government has <br />concerns with problems in San Marcos with predatory towing. He stated the Students <br />feel the towing companies prey on students and tourists. <br />Councilmember Bose stated he was on vacation in Nebraska, where people were <br />complaining on the traffic, not knowing how good they have it. <br />Councilmember Guerrero thanked the City Manager for riding with him and Police <br />Officer Danny Arrendando on weekend night. He stated this was a good opportunity to <br />show the City Manager the City late at night. <br />Councilmember Couch thanked everyone who was involved in Texas Natural Swing <br />which had a great turn out. She stated she will not be at the June 3rd meeting; she will be <br />celebrating her 3 5th Wedding Anniversary in Mexico. <br />Councilmember Jones reported he met with Texas Disposal Systems to get clarifications. <br />He stated he also attended Texas Natural Swing events; his favorite event was the great <br />food. He announced that the Juneteenth events will be on June 13, 2008. He stated this <br />year there will be cook offs, a parade, and car shows among other events. He <br />encouraged everyone to list their Juneteenth events on a <br />centralized celebration location. <br />Councilmember Thomaides reported that the City did not receive any forewarning <br />regarding the construction machinery that showed up to begin working late Sunday night <br />on a TxDOT project. He thanked the City Manager and Staff for working to limit the <br />inconvenience. He also reported the Austin-San Antonio Commuter Rail awarded $10 <br />million through CAMPO, and we also received one in the same amount from the San <br />Antonio Planning Group. He also reported that San Marcos was the first City to pay their <br />dues. <br />Mayor Narvaiz stated she is sad to say that last week marked one year that Byron Fouty <br />went missing, and his mother Hilary Meunier is in Washington this week speaking. She <br />reported she attended the Police Department ceremonies last week. She reported she <br />attended a conference where 70,000 people gathered regarding development and retail. <br />She reported that retailers and developers are moving into more sustainable developing. <br />She reported she brought back a packet on a Green Wal-Mart for Council to review. She <br />reported while she was there, she and the Economic Director met with other key people <br />from both Prime and Tanger Outlet Malls, who shared some concerns with the market <br />and competition, and they will soon be rolling out different marketing. She stated both <br />Outlets call our stores the jewel of their portfolios. She reported she met with Direct <br />Development, who outlined their marketing plans, and Troy Aikman will attend the grand <br />opening. <br />CONSENT AGENDA <br />10.
