<br />of anticipated tax revenue bonds, from the general fund, or any other means as directed by the City's <br /> <br />Financial Director. The parkland obtained with the assistance of the Texas Parks and Wildlife <br /> <br />Department grants will result in a very valuable and unique tract of land being dedicated as a park <br /> <br />and a wildlife preserve in perpetuity. <br /> <br />This Proposal consists of the acquisition of 15.96 acres ofland out of the flood plain and adjacent to <br /> <br />the donated 81.2:1: acres in the floodplain which will be dedicated to recreation and preservation of <br /> <br />environmentally unique land. Subsequent development will include a disc golf course; hike and <br /> <br />bike trails that will be linked to the overall planned Hays County Hike and Bike trail system and the <br /> <br />existing San Marcos River Corridor Hike and Bike Trail System; nature preserve and trails; picnic <br /> <br />areas; parking lot and restrooms. All facilities will be made accessible to the handicapped and <br /> <br />elderly. All new electrical and telephone lines will be placed underground. <br /> <br />3. <br /> <br />Objectives and Need for Assistance (project Justification) <br /> <br />This proposed park will preserve much needed natural and environmentally sensitive land in an area <br /> <br />of the state and county that is fast loosing its natural environment to development of all types. The <br /> <br />San Marcos and Hays County citizens will benefit from this acquisition and later development of the <br /> <br />proposed facilities that will provide much needed additional land preservation and additional <br /> <br />recreation activities for citizens of all ages. <br /> <br />The City of San Marcos is committed to the preservation and recreational use of unique and <br /> <br />environmentally sensitive areas. The City of San Marcos was successful in obtaining a similar grant <br /> <br />PROGRAM NARRATIVE - Page 3 of7 <br />
