<br />to acquire approximately 16 acres of land along the San Marcos River designated as San Marcos <br /> <br />Park and Wildlife Habitat Phase I and Phase II as well as the approximately 111.4:!: known as the <br /> <br />Regional Park Preserve, Phase I. <br /> <br />This Proposal will provide land which will NOT be available if not acquired immediately. The <br /> <br />current landowner has plans (and needs, for business reasons) to develop the property for multi <br /> <br />family and commercial use as soon as possible. The entire City of San Marcos has been involved <br /> <br />in the planning of this facility. During recent public hearings for the City of San Marcos £arks, <br /> <br />Recre3tion :md Open Sp~œ Mm;;ter Plan, various environmental groups have expressed interest in <br /> <br />acquiring several environmentally sensitive areas which include floodplain land on the Blanco <br /> <br />River. <br /> <br />As stated before, all of the facilities will be accessible to the handicapped. Retirement age persons <br /> <br />have been given special consideration in the planning of the facilities since they will represent a <br /> <br />growing segment of the general population that has selected San Marcos and Williamson County as <br /> <br />a retirement community. <br /> <br />The proposed land acquisition and the planned development will enhance the available areas <br /> <br />accessible to recreation and provide additional recreational facilities for this region. <br /> <br />4. <br /> <br />Project Action Plan <br /> <br />This Proposal consists of the acquisition of 15.96 acres of land out of the flood plain and adjacent to <br /> <br />PROGRAM NARRATIVE - Page 4 of7 <br />
