YSB
"To assist the Uouth of .saw Marcos awd hta0s Oou.wtu aon&n&LtKi tie
to ber-on&e cowt6but%wg ntevKbers of socleto as adults"
January 17, 2010
Dear San Marcos Nature Center,
The Youth Service Bureau would be happy to provide some volunteer hours during the
San Marcos Nature Center Nature Camps 2010. Our organization serves youth ages 11
to 17 that are considered at risk for dropping out of high school. In San Marcos, we have
approximately 40 kids that participate in our program. During both the school year and
the summer, our staff provides mentorship, recreational activities, and opportunities for
volunteer work. Since the San Marcos Nature Center opened in 2000, our organization
has been volunteering a minimum of two times per month. We work in the gardens, set
up for programs and events, pick up litter, and help with animal cage maintenance. We
would like to help the summer campers with maintenance of the Butterfly House and the
plants in the greenhouse, and we would also like to help with some of the set up for camp
activities. We could donate approximately 15-20 hours per member of volunteer time.
Also, I have talked to the Nature Center Coordinator about the Saturday field trips they
hope to offer during the school year to places like the Austin Nature Center. I think that
many of the members of the Youth Service Bureau would enjoy and benefit from these
excursions. A lot of our youth have not been able to visit such places, and many of them
love the time we spend at the Nature Center. We look forward to working with you this
summer,
Sincerely,
G.
