The Lifelong Learning Project has the potential to im prove and <br />enrich the Jives of a great many people in San Marcos. <br /> <br />IV. PROJECT OOAlS AND OBJECTIVES <br /> <br />Goals and objectives have been established for the Lifelong Learning Project whjch wi1J help <br />fulfm the overall missl0n of the San Marcos Public Library. That misslon, as stated <br />earlier, is to improve and enrich the Jives of the citizens of San Marcos by serving as a <br />center for Hfelong learnjng, cultural enrichment, and informatton exchange. The goals and <br />objectives of the project wm be inCXIrporated into the library's overall plan of service and <br />wm continue to guiœ our actlvities wel1 beyond the duration of the LSCA I TltJe I, grant <br />funding perioo. <br /> <br />The project cpals and objectives also help fulfH1 the mission of the Educational Opportunity <br />Center (EOC), our cooperoting cgency. The mission of the EOC i~ to provide educationol <br />tutoring and CXlunseling services to low income adults in order that they may eventual1y <br />become enrol1ed in vocational schools or programs of higher education. <br /> <br />The I})als and objectives of the lifelong learning Project are: <br /> <br />GOAL: <br /> <br />To implement a program destgned to enoourEYJe OOuUs with \ass than a twelfth <br />grade education to become regular library users by offering them a <br />meanlngful progrðffi of servlces and materlðls Whlch wi11 help them lead <br />fuller and more productive lives. <br /> <br />OBJECTIVES: To hire a Lifelong Learning Project Coordinator by October I, 1987. <br /> <br />To recruit 100 adults wlth less than a twelfth grade education for the <br />program during the period September 1987 through August 1988. <br /> <br />To proviœ 1,500 hours of free oou1t education tutoring to our target <br />population by August 31, 1988. <br /> <br />To prov1de a series of three life skills workshops on topics of interest to <br />the target group by August 3 I , '988. <br /> <br />To create a life skms col1ection by purchasing and cataloging 1000 books <br />which wiJ1 be geared toward the needs and reading abilities of adults with <br />less than ð twelfth grocle education. ThlS colJectlon wm be established by <br />December 31, 1987. <br /> <br />To train all library staff members regarding policies, procedures, <br />materials, and services connected with the project. <br />
