ZI/IÆAN MARCOS MUNICIPAL AIRPORT

July 14, 1987

MEMORANDUM FOR RECORD

The approach end of Runway 8 at the San Marcos Municipal Airport is
in an advanced stage of deterioration. The first approximate 3000
feet of Runway 8 is developing cracks, ruts, and pavement cratering
that are necessitating patch repairs on a weekly basis. The area is
now a mass of asphalt and concrete patches that are themselves
starting to fail. The rate of deterioration is taxing the ability of
the City of San Marcos to keep up with the required repairs. The
runway deterioration is accelerated by the fact that the airport's
heaviest traffic opt to use this 6300 foot runway, the longest of
four available runways. Because of the value and condition of this
runway, the San Marcos Airport Commission and airport management
have selected Runway 8-26 as the highest priority candidate for
federal assistance funding. The San Marcos Municipal Airport is now
working with Charles Willis & Associates, Inc. to obtain a Federal
Aviation Administration grant to reconstruct Runway 8-26 at the
earliest possible date.

L ~o.J .

Jack Doughty
Airport Manager

630 E.
