<br />residency within a reasonable distance from the principal <br /> <br />work site in order to assure a timely response. <br /> <br />H. <br /> <br />PROBATIONARY PERIOD <br /> <br />All employees shall be required to successfully complete <br /> <br />a six (6) month probationary period. <br /> <br />During the <br /> <br />probationary period, the supervisor shall closely observe <br />and evaluate the work of the newly appointed employee. <br /> <br />The Supervisor shall conduct a performance evaluation <br /> <br />review at the end of six (6) months. <br /> <br />The employee's <br /> <br />progress and deficiencies will be discussed and necessary <br />corrective action or performance improvement will be <br /> <br />documented in writing. <br /> <br />Probationary employees whose job <br /> <br />performance, attendance, or conduct is clearly <br />unsatisfactory, may be terminated at any time during the <br /> <br />probationary period. <br /> <br />Periods of leave of absence and <br /> <br />lost time shall extend the probationary period so that <br />the supervisor has a full six (6) months to evaluate <br /> <br />performance. <br /> <br />In unusual circumstances the probationary <br /> <br />period may be extended with approval of the employee, the <br />Department Director, and the Director of Personnel, for a <br /> <br />period not to exceed three (3) months. <br /> <br />The six (6) month <br /> <br />probationary period shall also apply to City employees <br /> <br />who are promoted to a higher job classification. <br /> <br />In thß <br /> <br />event the employee's job performance in the higher <br />position is unsatisfactory or the employee is found to be <br /> <br />-10- <br />
