<br />L. <br /> <br />DEMOTIONS <br /> <br />A demotion is the assignment of an employee to a position <br /> <br />having a lower starting salary. <br /> <br />A demotion requires the <br /> <br />approval of the Department Director, the Director of <br />Personnel, and tAe City Manager or Assistant City <br /> <br />Manager. <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />Voluntary Demotions - A voluntary demotion is not a <br />disciplinary action and does not disqualify the <br /> <br />employee from consideration for future advancement. <br /> <br />with the approval of the Department Director and, if <br />qualified to perform the duties of a lower level <br /> <br />position, an employee may be administratively demoted <br />at the employee's own request or as an alternative to <br /> <br />a layoff. <br /> <br />2. <br /> <br />Involuntary Demotions - An involuntary demotion is a <br /> <br />disciplinary action. <br /> <br />(See Section X - A-2-e SteDs in <br /> <br />the DisciDlinary Process). <br />The salary of a demoted employee (voluntary or <br /> <br />involuntary) shall be adjusted according to the <br /> <br />City's compensation policy on demotions. <br /> <br />(See <br /> <br />Section V-B-3-f Demotions). <br /> <br />Involuntary demotions <br /> <br />are subject to the grievance process (See Section XII <br /> <br />GRIEVANCES). <br /> <br />-13- <br />
