<br />as husband, wife, father, father-in-law, mother, <br /> <br />mother-in-law, son, daughter, brother, sister, <br />grandfather, grandmother, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, <br /> <br />or other members of kinship who may be residing under the <br />same roof with an employee at the time of death. <br /> <br />Additional Bereavement Leave may be granted by the <br />Department Director with the approval of City Manager or <br /> <br />the Assistant City Manager. <br /> <br />This additional leave (in <br /> <br />excess of the three days allowed) will be charged to the <br /> <br />employee's sick leave. <br /> <br />If an employee wishes to attend <br /> <br />other funerals, he/she must request use of vacation <br />leave, or compensatory time if applicable. <br /> <br />N. <br /> <br />LEAVE OF ABSENCE WITHOUT PAY <br /> <br />In certain justifiable cases, employees, having <br />satisfactory job performance and attendance records may <br /> <br />be allowed periods of time off without pay. <br /> <br />All such <br /> <br />leaves require written justification and approval of the <br />Department Director, Director of Personnel, and the City <br /> <br />Manager or Assistant City Manager. <br /> <br />Requests for leaves <br /> <br />of absence shall be carefully considered and should only <br />be approved for good cause, taking into consideration <br /> <br />whether or not the department can operate efficiently <br /> <br />during the employee's absence. <br /> <br />While on a leave of <br /> <br />absence an employee will not accrue any additional sick <br /> <br />leave or vacation leave. <br /> <br />However, the employee may <br /> <br />-57- <br />
