o <br />Actively persuade students and faculty to build their careers in <br />Greater San Marcos. <br />Place economic development marketing materials in student <br />lounges and dormitories on campus. <br />Launch an Explore Greater San Marcos campaign on <br />campus in which economic development and other local <br />leaders speak to student organizations about ways to get <br />involved in the larger community. <br /> <br />Located between two prosperous metropolitan areas, Greater San Marcos is under <br />tremendous growth pressure. While growth can be guided and cont <br />good planning, investment in infrastructure will be necessary. Quality of life is <br />among the most frequently cited strengths of the Greater San Marcos area. To <br />remain an attractive place for residents and businesses, it is v <br />to continue to make smart, proactive investments in infrastructu <br /> <br />Action 1: Advocate for the development of business/corporate aviation <br />facilities and services at San Marcos Municipal Airport. <br />Advocate for the timely implementation of the Airport Master Pla <br />o <br />Support funding measures that will enable the development of <br />facilities to meet high-end standards including a control tower, <br />additional hangars, increased security, business sites, warehouses, <br />and other amenities to transform the airport for larger commercial <br />and corporate uses. <br />Explore the potential of a regional approach to funding, since <br />adjacent counties will benefit from having a commercial <br />airport in close proximity. <br />Explore the establishment a fixed base operator (FBO) to <br />further extend <br />the Airports <br />capacity. <br />Examine Sugar <br />Land, Texas <br />municipal airport <br />as a model for <br />success. <br />o <br />Work with the City to adopt an incentive package for aviation-related <br />businesses and investments to catalyze development at the San <br />Marcos Municipal Airport. <br /> <br />Final Strategy <br />September 2009 29 <br /> <br />
