Action 3: Conserve the natural environment and increase outdoor <br />recreation opportunities, tying these amenities to the Greater San Marcos <br />brand. <br />Finalize a regional Recreation and Greenspace Plan that prioritizes activ <br />to enhance outdoor and recreational amenities. <br />o <br />Examine ways in which area youth can become involved in <br />conservation efforts. <br />o <br />Advocate for pedestrian and bicycle trail development. Pursue al <br />viable means of enhancing the connectivity of existing and planned <br />walking/hiking/biking trails in Greater San Marcos from the CAMP <br />Mobility 2030 Plan. <br />o <br />Fulfill future demand for – active and passive park space and related <br />amenities (i.e., ball parks, soccer fields, aquatic centers, etc <br />greenspace, and pedestrian, bike, and equestrian trails. <br /> <br />Create a local Green campaign, focused on encouraging recycling <br />alternatives to single-occupancy private automobiles as a primary means of <br />transportation (i.e., riding transit, carpooling, bicycling, or walking). <br />o <br />Use this campaign to create a public image of Greater San Marcos <br />an environmentally-friendly community. <br />o <br />Use this campaign to garner support for developing/ redeveloping– <br />and occupying – more <br />residential, office, <br />commercial, and retail space <br />in Downtown San Marcos to <br />create a stronger live-work- <br />play environment in this <br />neighborhood. <br />o <br />Continually connect Greater <br />San Marcos’ natural identity <br />and its economic prosperity, <br />and incorporate <br />environmental preservation <br />into economic development <br />and marketing initiatives. <br />o <br />Publicize Greater San Marcos’ efforts to protect the area’s natu <br />resources and ecosystem’s history. <br />o <br />Promote and secure additional funding for Project Flowing Waters <br />TXST’s Rivers Systems Institute and the Aquarena Center, the Texas <br />Stream Team, the Consortium for Watershed Excellence, and other <br />educational and research programs focused on the San Marcos <br />ecosystem. <br /> <br />Include Greater San Marcos’ quality of life organizations in fut <br />development initiatives. <br /> <br />Final Strategy <br />September 2009 40 <br /> <br />
