Mrs. Emery seconded the motion, and on <br />roll call, the following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br />ABSTAIN: <br /> <br />Dela Rosa, Emery, Etheredge, Flores, King <br />None <br />Yarbrough <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the ordinance Passed~ Approved and Adopfed. <br /> <br />Upon suggestion of Mrs. Emery, it was agreed that the Mayor <br />would write a letter to the editors of local newspapers and <br />the San Antonio Express and Austin American, commending the <br />many students al1'd townspeople of all ages" who participated <br />in the Clean-up along the San Marcos River~ March 11. <br /> <br />Mr. Flores gave the land Commitee's report on the request for <br />the City to open the alley between Cheatham and Grove.$treet. <br />He recommended that the City Marlagerask the City.Engin.eer to <br />survey the platted alley; and that the property-ownera affected <br />by the alley be asked to write a letter making formal request <br />for the alley to ~e opened. <br /> <br />'M'r.. King said he had' been approached by some volunteer firem, <br />about the need for an area suitable for burning some old cars <br />in a drill. The City Manager said a place was being sought <br />that was safe to h~ld the exercise. <br /> <br />Mr. Dela'Rosa said some persons who had previp4s1y .served on <br />the Council had talked to him about the possible uSe of the <br />old disposal plant property for a park. Councilmen Flores sug- <br />gested that, since the old disposal plant is still in. use, they <br />might have been referring to the old "dump grounds" on Lime Kiln <br />Road. He said the Land Committee had made a study of that prop- <br />erty Some years ago, and, after getting an appraisal,ha~ recommend- <br />ed that the City not sell the .land at the pr'el1!eJ1t...time. <br />
