<br />regular meeting, september 25, 1972 <br /> <br />page three <br /> <br />The Mayor announced that three nom i nat ions hcidbeen made to fill <br />positions on the Planning and Zoning Commission'which expire in <br />October: Dr. Emmie Craddock and Mrs.' Jack'Weatherford, incumbents, <br />and Mr. Juan Ramon Palomo. Mr, Yarbrough movecithat Dr, Craddock <br />and Mrs. Weatherford be reappo i nt",d and that Mr. Pa I omo be appo inted <br />to the Planning and Zoning Commission. Mr. ~ing seconded the motion. <br />On roll call, the following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Etheredge, Flores, King, Tauch, Yarbrough <br />Cunningham, DeLa Rosa <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the moti.on passed, and Dr. Craddock, Mrs. <br />Weatherford and Mr. Pa 10100 appo i nted to serve three year-terms <br />on the Commission. <br /> <br />Mr. King introduced Mr. Joel CI iett, jr" representative for the <br />Volunteer Fire Department~ Mr. CI iett came before the Council to <br />request that a tra i n i ng area be located for the Fire Department, <br />and mentioned ,two sites own",d by the City which might be suitable. <br />The Council requested that the City Manager survey the sit~ation <br />with reference to locating a suitable site. Mr. Yarbrough <br />commended the Fire Department for the "outstanding job" done in <br />combatting'a fire occurring on September 22 in the City. <br /> <br />'Mr. Yarbrough req~ested the Council consider appointment of a <br />Senior Citizens Advisory Board for the Senior Citizens Center.' <br />It was suggested th6t seven members be appoihtedi'Mr. Yarbrough <br />nominated Mrs. Victoria Wilson and Mr. Joe Rodriguez to serve on <br />the Board, <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Leo Poore, Manager of the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce, came <br />before the Council to report that the State Legislature and the <br />Austin City'Council had passed resolutions on September 25i 1972, <br />commending the 3rd Annual Republ ic of Texas Chilympiad for bringing <br />recognition to this area. <br /> <br />The City Manager stated that Mr. and Mrs. 0,/3, Thomas had <br />req~ested that the Counc i I again cons i del" a request for a change <br />in zoning which had been tabled January 11, 1971. Mr. King <br />stated that the request had been tabled since the City and Mr, <br />and Mrs. Thomas cou I d not reach an agreement concern i ng I" i ght-of- <br />way dedication necessary to widen L.B.J. Drive, and that he felt <br />the Council could take no action until an agreemeni could be <br />reached. No action was taken. ' <br /> <br />'Mr. Celestiho Mendez; jr., President of Hays County Independent <br />Party ,came before the Counc i I to present a Resolution cohcern'i ng <br />the Jose Ponce case. (See attached) Mayor F~o~es explaine~ that, <br />since the Resolution had not been placed on the Agenda, no action <br />could be taken; however, the Council was will ing to hear Mr. Mendez' <br />commentis. He further stated that a report had, been prepared <br />concerning the case, and would be presented to the Council very <br />shortly, Mr. Mendez said that the Resolution would be sufficient <br />comment. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor introduced a resolution with the following caption: . <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION DtCLARING A PUBLIC NECESSIT~ fOR THE ACQUISITION <br />OF FEE SIMPLE TITLE TO CERTAIN PRIVATELY OWNED REAL PROPERTY <br />IN SAN MARCOS, HAYS COUNTY, TEXAS, FOR PUBLIC PURPOSES, TO-WIT: <br />CONSTRUCTION OF SESSOM DRIVE; AND DIRECTING THE CITY ATTORNEY <br />TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS THROUGH ITS ATTORNEYS <br />PURSUANT TO CONTRACT WITH THE CITY TO INSTITUTE' AND PROSECUTE <br />TO CONCLUSION CONDEMNATION PROCEEDINGS TO ACQUIRE SO MUCH <br />THEREOF AS CANNOT BE ACQUIRED THROUGH NEGOTIATION. <br />
