He stated it was the intent of the group to build <br />a museum; that they understood the City could not make land <br />available for that use without a referendum; and made a pro- <br />posal whereby the building could be erected on land acquired <br />through Urban Renewal, and given to the City. Mr. Dailey <br />introduced Dr. Billy M. Jones, President of SWTSU and a mem- <br />ber of the Museum Board, who explained a plan whereby the <br />University could employ "a person. of significant background", <br />put him on the staff of the University, and share his salary <br />as Director of the Museum, on a half-time basis, with the City. <br />Dr. Craddock enquired about the salary. Dr. Jones said a full <br />professor would draw a salary of $14,500 for nine months, and <br />added that the University could carry 3/4 of the salary until <br />such time as the City could assume half. Mr. Yarbrough moved <br />that the Mayor appoint a .committee to work with the Museum <br />Board, and move in the direction as outlined by Dr. Jones and <br />Mr. Dailey. Dr. Craddock seconded the motion, which passed <br />unanimously. The Mayor appointed Mr. Yarbrough, chairman, <br />and Co~ncilmen Contreras. Flores and Zavesky to a committee to <br />work with the Museum Board on the project. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor introduced an ordinance and read the cap*ion: <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE AND THE CITY <br />SECRETARY TO ATTEST A SPECIAL WARRANTY DEED OF TWO PARCELS <br />OF PROPERTY FROM THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS TO THE URBAN RENEWAL <br />AGENCY OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS <br /> <br />A plat of the area showing the parcels of land was examined. <br />Dr. Craddock moved approval of the Ordinance on first reading. <br />Mr. Zavesky seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />The Council considered the appointment of a "Proclaimer", I <br />as required by Urban Renewal guidelines. The matter had been <br />tabled from a previous meeting. Dr. Craddock moved that the <br />matter be referred to the Urban Renewal Board for action. <br />Mr. Yarbrough seconded the motion. which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />The Mayor introduced a petition for annexation of property <br />comprising Crestwood Subdivision. Dr. Craddock asked W.S. <br />Rader, the petitioner, the value of houses planned for Crest- <br />wood. Mr. Rader said price would range from $33,00 to <br />$45,000, with .a .total tax evaluation of $1,800,000. <br />Mr. Yarbrough moved approval of the petition. Mr. Smith second- <br />ed the motion. which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />The Mayor introduced for first reading an ordinance annexing <br />Crestwood.
