Cochr.an, to request a franchise to <br />operate a school bus. She said there were an estimated <br />1,000 students living within the two-mile radius of the <br />schools who would be prospective customers. It was explain- <br />ed that the State provides transportation only for those <br />students who live outside the two-mile radius. Dr. Craddock <br />moved that a committee be appointed to study the Marburger- <br />Cochran propos:al, and that the City Attorney be requested to <br />prepare a franchise for consideration. Mr. Zavesky seconded <br />the motion. Mr. King said he would like to see the matter <br />move ahead as fast as possible. On roll call, the following <br />vote was recorded: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />AYE: Craddock, Flores,King,Smith, Yarbrough, Zavesky <br />NAY: None <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion carried. <br /> <br />The Mayo.r appointed Mr. .Flores, Mr.. King and Dr. Craddock <br />as a committee to study the request for a school bus franchise. <br />He asked the City Manager to .request the City Attorney to pre- <br />pare a franchise for consideration by the Council. <br /> <br />The Mayor reported he had attended a Chamber of Commerce <br />Directors meeting with other citiZens who are concerned about <br />the ac~wracyof the 1970 Census report for San Marcos. <br />The Cham~er of Commerce appointed a.committeefrom their o~- <br />gapization, andrequeste~ that the County andCityal~oappoint <br />members to work on a joint committee to investigate the methods <br />used in determining the 1970 Census report for San Marcos a~d <br />Hays County. One question was whether the students of the var- <br />ious schoolshad.heen counted, and wheth~r an'up~to-date map <br />of San Marcos had been used. It was reported that a 1960 map <br />was used. Dr. Craddock moved that a committee be appointed <br />to serve with the Chamber. ,of Commerce Committee for investi- <br />gation of the 1970 Census. Mr. King seconded the motion, which <br />passed unanimously. The. Mayor appointed Mr. Contreras, Mr. .y ar- <br />brovgh, Mr., Zavesky and himself . to the committee. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Mr. Y arbroughopened disc.ussion on the function of the'Ci tizens <br />Advisory Committee. He said he felt such a committee could be <br />of gre~ value to the City, if composed of persons truly inter- <br />est.ed in the affairs of the community,wh'o wereewilling to attend <br />meetings. The Mayor asked the City Secretary to~ontact the <br />Chairman of the Citizens Advisory Committee, Mr. R.C. Van Gundy, <br />and ask him to canvass his 'committee to ascertain whether they <br />wished to continue as members. <br /> <br />and <br />J. He <br /> <br />~ Mr. Yarbrough proposed the name of Jerry L. Moore. <br />
