<br />f:Rl <br />251 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE CAllIN3 FOR AN ELECTION FOR THE PURPOSE OF <br />VOTIM:> ON THE QUESTION OF WHETHER THE TERM OF THE OFFICERS <br />OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, SHALL BE EXTENDED FRCJJI <br />TWO YEARS TO FOUR YEARS, AS AUTHORIZED BY SECTION II OF <br />ARTICLE XI OF THE CONSTITUTION OF TEXAS. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNING Booy OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> <br />SECTION 1. Section II of Article XI of the Constitution of Texas <br /> <br />provides that a city, town, or village operating under the general <br /> <br />laws may provide by a majority vote of the qualified voters voting <br /> <br />at an election called for that purpose, for a longer term of office <br /> <br />than two years for its officers, either elective or appointive, or <br /> <br />both, but not to exceed four years. <br /> <br />SECTION 2. At the next annual election of the City of San Marcos, <br /> <br />Texas, the question of whether the term of office of the officers <br /> <br />of the City of San Marcos, Texas, shall be extended from two to <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />four years shall be submitted to the voters and the official ballot <br /> <br />shall contain the following propositions: <br /> <br />PROPOSITION ONE: The terms of office of the officers of the <br /> <br />City of San Marcos, Texas, elected (or appointed) on April 7, 1959, <br /> <br />and thereafter, shall continue to be two years, or until their <br /> <br />successors have been duly qualified. <br /> <br />PROPOSITION TWO: The term of office of all officers of the <br /> <br />City of San Marcos, Texas, elected (or appointed) on April 7, 1959, <br /> <br />and thereafter, shall be for four years,or until their successors <br /> <br />have been duly qualified, and after ipril 7, 1959, any vacancy or <br /> <br />vacancies occuring on the governing body of the City of San Marcos, <br /> <br />Texas, shall be filled by a majorityvote of the qualified voters at <br /> <br />an election called for such purpose within 120 days after such <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />vacancy or vacancies occur. <br /> <br />(VOTE FOR ONLY ONE OF THE ABOVE TWO PROPOSITIONS BY PLACII~ A CHECK <br />MARK OR AN X IN FRONT OF THE PROPOSITION VOTED FOR, OR BY DELETlN3 <br />AND STRIKIM:> Oill TflE PROPOSITION VOTED AGAINST.) <br /> <br />SECTION 3.
