<br />J <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />considered; to make preliminary layouts and sketches; and, to submit a <br />tentative cost estimate of the proposed construction. <br />6. DesiQn Phase - To make such field surveys as are required for <br />the design and layout of the improvements; to conduct su~ planning, sur- <br />veys, and necessary subsurface explorations as are required, arranging <br />for such work to be done for the City's account, and to make an interpre- <br />taUon of the results of the surveys and explorations;tofurnhh engin- <br />eering data necessary for application for permits, if required, by the <br />local, state, or federal authorities; to prepare detailed drawings and <br />specifications for the constructions; to assist the City in securing <br />acceptable bids from reliable contractors;1D make an analysis of the <br />bids and a recommendation concerning the award; and, to assist in the <br />award of the contract. <br />C. Construction Phase - After award has been made, to check all <br />shop drawings, working drawings furnished by the contraetor, reinforcing <br />steel, structural steel, and other construction materials to the end <br />that the construction is in complete accordance with the plans and specifi- <br />cations; to supervise and review all laboratory, mill, and sh9P tests; to <br />hold consultations with the City and to render advice during the period <br />of construction; to maintain general supervision, interpretation of the <br />plans and specifications by periodic visits to the site by representatives <br />of the Engineer; to assure that the interests of the City is protected <br />at all times; to check all monthly estimates and make regular reports to <br />the City as to prcgress; to check all estimae$ for payments made to the <br />contractor; to make a final inspection to assure that the construction is <br />in complete accordance with the plans and specifications; and further to <br />make such changes in the plans and specifications of the work actually <br />constructed as to furnish the owner with a set of as-built reproducible <br />tracings for his records. <br /> <br />IV. <br /> <br />For the services and materials to be furnished by the Engineer <br />hereinunder, the City agrees to pay, and the Engineer agrees to accept, <br />
