Alderman Korff seconded the motion <br />of adoption and upon roll call the ayes and nays were as follows, <br />Ayes, Allen, Hillburn, Korff, Ruiz, Sutton, and Younger. <br />Nays, None <br />Whereupon Mayo, Allen declared the ordinance passed, approved and <br />adopted. <br /> <br />The City Manager reported on letters which had been re- <br />ceived from the Vice-President, Senator Yarborough and Congressman <br />Thornberry regarding his request for assistance in getting Social <br />Security coverage for the paid members of the San Marcos Fire De- <br />pa rtme nt. <br /> <br />The Council discussed the retirement of Mr. Lane, Super- <br />intendent of the Sanitation Department. It was the decision of the <br />Council to postpone any action on this matter until the December <br />meeting. <br /> <br />It was reported that the power generator, purchased from <br />the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital for $200.00, had been <br />received. This unit will be placed in operation as soon as the <br />renovations have been completed to the office spaces in the rear <br />of the City Hall, previously approved. <br /> <br />It was the decision of the Council to defer any action <br />on a sprinkler system for the grassed areas on the Interstate High- <br />way through San Marcos due to the unsatisfactory results which <br />New Rraunfels has had with their system. <br /> <br />Alderman Younger introduced an ordinance and moved its <br />adoption. The ordinance, which was read in full, is captioned, <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 11 OF AN ORDINANCE ENfITLED <br />AN ORDINANCE DEFINING AND p.EGULAIING ITINERANf MERCHANfS, <br />ITINERANf VENDORS, PEDDLERS, AND PERSONS SELLING OR <br />TAKING ORDERS FOR GOODS, WARES, MERCHANDISE, SERVICES, <br />PHOTiXiRAPHS, NEWSPAPERS, MAGAZINES, OR SUBSCRIPTIOtfS TO <br />NEWSPAPERS OR MAGAZINES; PROVIDING FOR A LICENSE AND A <br />LICENSE FEE; REQUIRING A BOND; AND PROVIDING PENALT IES <br />FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE, INCLUDING A FINE <br />NOT LESS THEN $10.00 NOR MORE THAN $100.00. <br />The motion of adoption was seconded by Alderman Sutton and upon <br />roll call the ayes and nays were as follows: <br />Ayes: Allen, Hillburn, Korff, Ruiz, Sutton, and Younger. <br />Nays: None <br />Whereupon Mayor Allen declared the ordinance passed, approved, and <br />adopted. <br /> <br />The Council endorsed a recommendation of the American <br />Municipal League that the Congress pass appropriate legislation <br />permitting local governmental agencies to buy surplus governmental <br />property at the same price it is offered to federal agencies. The <br />City Manager was directed to advise the members of Congress of the <br />Council's wishes when Congress reconvenes in January, 1962. <br /> <br />The Council was advised that the Wally Byam Caravan had <br />accepted the City's invitation to hold their pre-Mexico Rally in <br />San Marcos in late January and early February of 1962. The City <br />Manager was instructed to have the necessary improvements made in <br />time for the rally. <br /> <br />A resolution of appreciation from the Hays County Farm <br />Bureau was read expressihg their appreciation to the Council for <br />the use of the space at the City's shop on Fredericksburg Street <br />for the laboratory for testing for Brucellosis. <br /> <br />It was the unaminous decision of the Council that the <br />parking problem at the Campus Elementary School be worked out be- <br />tween the Administrative Officer of the School System and the <br />Business Manager of the College as the City is not involved. <br /> <br />( <br />-~) <br /> <br />~ <br />::0 <br />r-: <br />n <br />tx:l <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br />
