<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Regular Meeting, July 10, 1962 p. 3 <br /> <br />.~... <br />J <br /> <br />The City Manager stated the final certification of the relocation of <br />utility lines alQng Interstate 35 by Kavanaugh Construction Company <br />had been received that day. He asked that the Council approve it, <br />subject to a final check by the Inspector, Mr. Posey and himself. The <br />Council unanimously authorized the Certification of Acceptance under the <br />specified condition. <br /> <br />The need for adequate illumination on Interstate 35 was discussed. <br />Alderman Swift moved that, in the interest of traffic safety, the Council <br />petition the Highway Department to install lights from City Limits to <br />City Limits on Interstate 35. Alderman Ruiz seconded the motion and it <br />carried unanimously. <br /> <br />The request of the School Board that the City assist with the correction <br />of a drainage problem at the James Bowie School was discussed. It was <br />the considered opinion of the Council that the City should not do the <br />work, since it might be construed as interfering with private enterprise. <br /> <br />Alderman Swift moved that the City Manager be directed to work with the <br />City Attorney in determining the cost of acquiring the right-of-way al&ng <br />Thorp Lane for building an additional road to the Hospital, and the <br />presentation of a firm plan for the project at the next Council meeting. <br />The motion, secmnded by Alderman Stokes, was passed unanimously. <br /> <br />The matter of compensation for the Executive Director of the City Housing <br />Authority was discussed by the Council. Alderman Stokes requested the <br />City Manager to investigate how this might be handled to give the City <br />extra revenue. <br /> <br />The regular meeting was adjourned at 10:05 p.m. and the Council went into <br />executive session. <br /> <br />EXECUT lYE SESS ION <br /> <br />Alderman Swift moved that Acting Chief of Police Dial be commended for <br />his work since his appointment in May, and that the City Manager look <br />into the cost and feasibility of sending him to the FBT Academy. <br />Alderman Stokes seconded the motion and it carried. Roll call of the <br />Council vote was as follows: <br /> <br />Ayess Stokes, Swift and Younger <br />Nays.
