<br />adjourned regular meeting, october 28, 1963 <br /> <br />page two <br /> <br />that a standard be acquired for the UN flag recently bought by the <br />Council, and that the flag be displayed in the Council Room. The <br />motion, seconded by Alderman Stokes, passed unanimously. <br /> <br />The question of setting speed limits on the State Highways that pass <br />through San Marcos was introduced by the Mayor. The whole problem <br />of traffic and accidents was discussed at length by the Council. <br />Alderman Stokes suggested a flasher for the school zone on the <br />highway. Alderman Pool introduced an ordinance changing the speed <br />limits on the highway, and moved its adoption. Caption of the <br />Ordinance, which is made a part of the Minutes, is as follows: <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SUBSECIION 8a and ab OF SECIION 2 <br />OF AN ORDINANCE ADOPTED ON THE 20TH DAY OF AUGUST, A.D. <br />1963, ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE SPEED OF TRAFFIC <br />UPON PORTIONS OF U.S. AND STATE HIGHWAYS LYING WITHIN THE <br />CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS THROUGH THE ESTAB- <br />LISHMENT OF CERTAIN MAXIMUM SPEEDS FOR PARTICULAR SECIIONS <br />OF SAID HIGHWAYS; ENUMERATING THE HIGHWAYS AND SECTIONS THEREOF <br />WITH THE MAXIMUM SPEEDS; FIXING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION OF <br />THE PROVISIONS OF THIS ORDINANCE; PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; <br />REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CQNFLICI HEREWITH; AND ESTABLISHING <br />AN EFFECTIVE DATE"; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE FOR THE <br />AMENDMENT <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Alderman Ruiz seconded the motion of adoption, and on roll call, <br />the following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: Moore, Pool, Ruiz, Stokes <br />NAY: None <br /> <br />Whereupon, the Mayor declared the Ordinance Passed, Approved and Adopted. <br /> <br />The Council continued a discussion of ways and means of improving <br />traffic safety in the school zones, particularly on the highway. The I <br />Mayor said he ~ould contact schOOl principalS to suggest a program <br />of safety education be initiated in the schools. <br /> <br />Alderman Stokes introduced an ordinance and moved its adoption. <br />Caption of the Ordinance was as follows: <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE RECEIVING CERTAIN TERRITORY ADJOINING THE <br />CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS INTO SAID CITY LIMITS <br /> <br />Alderman Ruiz seconded the motion, and on roll call, the following <br />vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: Moore, Pool, Ruiz, Stokes <br />NAYs None <br /> <br />Whereupon, the Mayor declared the Ordinance Passed, Approved and Adopted. <br /> <br />Alderman Stokes introduced a Resolution and moved its approval. <br />Caption of the Resolution is as follows: <br /> <br />RESOLUIION APPROVING APPLICATION FOR PRELIMINARY LOAN <br />FOR LOW-RENT PUBLIC HOUSING <br /> <br />Alderman Ruiz seconded the motion for ap~rova1 and on roll call <br />the following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: Moore, Pool, Ruiz, Stokes <br />NAY, None <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Whereupon, the Mayor declared the Resolution Passed and Approved. <br /> <br />gg(; <br />
