By common consent, the Counci I gave <br />approval to the Mayor's signing Part I II of the appli- <br />cation for matching federal funds for the Library. <br /> <br />The Mayor j nformed the Counc i I that J. M. Sims had re- <br />signed from the Planning & Zoning Commission. The <br />Counci I approved by common consent the Mayor's appoint- <br />ment of J.E. Younger, jr. to fill Mr. Sim's unexpired <br />term on the Commission. <br /> <br />The Mayor stated that the San Marcos Independent School <br />District had fi led a petition in District Court (#2076) <br />cove~ing 37 separate defendants for judgements for de- <br />I inquenttaxes. He recommended that the City intervene <br />in th is Pet it i on, us i ng the same attorney, incase there <br />were any taxes owing ~he City on this property. The fee <br />wou I d be the usua I 15% of taxes co II ected. A I derman F roh <br />moved that the City intervene in the 37 tax suits being <br />fi led by the San Marcos Independent School District, <br />employing the same attorney, Ross Terry, to act for the <br />City. Alderman Pool seconded the motion. On roll call <br />the following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Damon, Froh, Pool, Whittenberg <br />None <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion carried. <br /> <br />Mayor Serur made reference to a letter received by the <br />Counci I from B.R. Fuller, fol>f.owing his resignation as <br />City Manager. He expressed appreciation that Mr. Fuller <br />had offered to act as Consultant on the projects in which <br />the City is currently engaged, and to render whatever serv- <br />ice he could in assisting Mrs. Worrel I, Acting City Manager. <br />Dr. Pool said: "In ~his transfer, we have to have his help <br />and advice... the new City Manager andlMrs. Worrell wi II <br />need his advice." <br /> <br />Alderman Damon moved "that the City Counci I request that <br />the Urban Renewal Agency Board and Executive Director sub- <br />mit at the next regular meeting of the City Counci I two sep- <br />arate progress reports on the two separate Renewal Projects, <br />so that the City Counci I, the Press ~nd the Public may have <br />authoritative information from their duly appointed officials." <br />Alderman Pool seconded the motion and on roll call, the foll- <br />owing vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE; Damon, Froh, Pool, Whittenberg <br />NAY: None <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion carried. <br /> <br />Alderman Froh moved that, at a time appointed by the Mayor, <br />a joint meeting of the Council, the Local Public Agency <br />(Urban Renewal Agency) and its Director, and the Planning <br />& Zon i ng Comm i ss i on be he I d. A I derman Poo I seconded the <br />motion. There was a discussion, with John Stokes speaking <br />from the floor, of the authority which the City Counci I <br />exercises over its appointed boards. It was made clear by <br />Counci Imen that the City makes requests, not demands, of <br />the boards the City appoints. <br /> <br />-, 1_'" <br />
