AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE VIII OF THE BUILDING CODE OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, (SAME BEING THE NATIONAL BUILDING CODE OF 1949 AS AMENDED), BY SUBSTITUTING FOR THE PRESENT SUB- SECTION (4) OF SECTION 802.2 A NEW SUB-SECTION (4) GOVERNING THE USE AND INSTALLATION OF WOOD SHINGLES AND HAND-SPLIT SHAKES. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN ~ffiRCOS, TEXAS: I Sed ion 1- That Sub-Section (4) of Section 802.2, Article VIII be and it is hereby repealed. Section 2. That a new Sub-Section (4) of said Section 802.2 of Article VIII of the Building Code of the City of San Marcos, Texas, (same being the National Building Code of 1949, as amended) be, and same is hereby promulgated as follows: (4) Outside the fire districts, buildings not exceeding two stories in height and located not less than five feet (5') from the property line may be roofed with approved label No. 1 or No. 2 Wood Shingles or Hand-split Shakes with a minimum butt of one-half inch, securely fastened with rust resistant nails. Hand- split Shakes shall be applied with a 36 inch started strip of 30 pound roofing felt at the eaves, and with an 18 inch strip of same felt interlaid between each course from a point twice the exposure from the butt. If any word, phrase, clause, sentence or section of this or- dinance shall be deemed unconstitutional or illegal by a court of competent jurisdiction, such shall not invalidate the remainder of this article.
