Alderman Froh asked if it <br />could be handled with the present budget. The City <br />Manager answered in the affirmative. On roll call <br />the following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Damon, Froh, Pool, Korff, Whittenberg <br />None <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion carried. <br /> <br />Alderman Whittenberg said it had been brought to his <br />attention that there were unnecessary fire-plugs in the <br />middle of the Square. He said their removal would pro- <br />vide more space for parking meters. Mr. Whittenberg <br />moved that, if the volunteer and paid fire chiefs ap- <br />proved, the unnecessary fire plugs be removed and park- <br />ing meters instal led. Alderman Pool seconded the motion <br />and on roll cal I the fol lowing vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Damon, Froh, Pool, Korff, Whittenberg <br />None <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion carried. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor read aloud a letter from the District Attorney, <br />requesting parking permits for himself and secretary, at <br />$18 a year each. Alderman Whittenberg moved the request <br />be granted and the two permits be issued. Alderman Damon <br />seconded the motion. He asked the City Manager how many <br />permits were in effect at the present. Mr. Wolff answer- <br />ed "Four". I t was stated that three had been issued to <br />news media, and one to a TV firm. Mr. Froh reminded the <br />Counci I that the City Manager had already advised them in <br />a letter that permits, if issued, should carry a fee of <br />$60, as a more rea 1 i st i c f i gu re. Mr. Korff asked how the <br />figure was arrived at. The City Manager eXplained that if <br />a permit were really uti lized, the revenue lost by the City <br />would be in excess of $60. He said the present permits <br />exp i re Jan. I. Jerry Moore asked for the floor and sa i d <br />he had been denied a permit last Summer. H~ asked on what <br />basis they were issued. Alderman Korff sai8 everyone should <br />be treated a like. He requested he be issued a permit for parking at <br />$18 a year. Alderman Damon moved that Mr. Moore be issued <br />a permit at $18 a year. Alderman Pool seconded the motion. <br />Alderman Whittenberg said he recognized Mr. Moore's need <br />for a permit, but he was opposed to changing the City's <br />policy. He said he fel~ *he District Attorney's request <br />was different. A I derman Froh sa i d he thought the Counci I <br />was "m i ss ing the boat... We hired the City Manager to get <br />us out of t.he hole. He says the permits are worth $60 a <br />year - I'm in agreement with the City Manager." The City <br />Manager said:"lf we issue per~its at $18, we are in direct <br />competition with ourselves". <br />
