I AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS CREA- )',,1''; THE EXAMINING AND SUPERVISING BOARD OF ELECTRICIANS AND PRESCRIBING ITS POWERS AND DUTIES: CREATING THE OFFICE OF ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR AND PRESCRIBING HIS POWERS AND DUTIES: PROVIDING FOR THE LICENSING OF ELECTRI- CIANS, THE MANNER AND WAY IN WHICH CERTAIN ELECTRICAL WORK SHALL BE DONE, THE KIND AND CLASS OF MATERIAL TO BE USED IN SUCH WORK AND THE SCALE OF FEES FOR SUCH INSPECTION: REQUIRING PERMITS FOR CERTAIN KINDS OF ELECTRI- CAL WORK: REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES, OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN C01WLICT THERE- WITH, AND FIXING A PENALTY OF A FINE OF NOT LESS THAN $1.00 AND NOT MORE THAN $200.00, FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF. BE IT~RDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: DEFINITIONS: That the term Master Electrician as used in this ordinance is defined to mean and include any person engaged in the business of installing or repairing or contracting to install or repair wires, conductors, and equipment used with or on buildings for the transmission of electrical current for electric light, heat, power or signalling purposes, together with the fittings for Same neces- sary for the protection of such wires, conductors, and eQuipment. That the term Journeyman Electrician as used in this ordinance, is defined to mean and i~clude any ~erson who does not contract with the owner of a building (or other person procuring the services of an electrician) but works for and under the direction of a Master Electrician. That the term Maintenance Electric License Restricted as used in this ordin- ance is defined to mean and include any person who is regularly employed by one employer upon a permanent basis to do work of an electrical nature, restricted to maintenance, repair, relocation or replacement, of any electrical condvctor or eQuipment pertaining to branch circuits, or similar work within the confines of the building or premises of said employer. 'i SECTION 1. EXAMINING AND SUPERVISING BOARD OF ELECTRICIANS. I 1.1 That there is hereby created a board for the examination of electri- cians within the City of San Marcos, Texas, to be known as the Examining and Supervising Board of Electricians. Said Board shall consist of four members; one member shall be the City Manager of San Marcos, Texas; one member shall be a Qualified representative of the local electrical utilities company; and two members shall be Master Electricians with established business houses in San Marcos, Texas. The members of such Board shall be appointed by the Mayor of the City of San Marcos, Texas, within five days after this ordinance takes ef- fect. The appointment or appointments of members of such Board shall not become effective until approved by the City Council of the City of San Marcos, Texas. Each succeeding Mayor, after he has Qualified for such office, shall appoint the members to constitute such Board. The members of such Board shall continue to act as the examining supervising Board of Electricians until their successors have been appointed and such appointments approved by the City Council of San Marcos, Texas. If for any reason a vacancy or vacancies are created in said Board, the Mayor of the City of San Marcos, Texas, shall appoint a new member o r members. 1.2 That members of the Examining and Supervising Board of Electricians shall receive no compensation for their services on said Board other than the fees which may be allowed them by the City Council of the City of San Marcos, Texas, for conducting examinations for licenses. I 1'1 1.3 That said Board shall, after its appointment and approval, fix dates at reasonable times for having applications for examinations for licenses. 1.4 That it shall be the duty of the Board to pass upon all persons engaged in the electrical business as Master Electricians and Journeyman Electricians. Whenever a person shall successfully pass the examination prescribed by the Board, said Board shall notify the City Secretary of such fact, and the City Secretary shall issue a license to such person so passing the examination and shall record the issuance of such license in a book to be kept by her for such purpose. No license shall be issued to a Master Electrician until he shall have first given bond in the sum of One Thousand ($1,000.00) Dollars conditioned upon the full and faithful compliance with the ordinance of the City of San Marcos, Texas, reg- ulating installation and repair of electrical wiring and apparatus. 1.5 That no license shall be issued for more than one year, and such license may be renewed from year to year upon application of the holder of such license. ~ieense year to begin on January 1st of each year.
