It was explained that, in order <br />to qualify for federal funds, the application must carry <br />the name of the architectural firm employed for the work. <br />A I derman Korff moved that the City Manager i nv i te "sever- <br />a architects for interview by the Counci I. Alderman <br />Damon seconded the motion, which was passed by commor\ <br />consent. It was agreed that the interviews would be held <br />by the Cour\cil, Thursday, Nov. 17, starting at 7:00 p.m. <br /> <br />The Mayor announced that it was necessary to appoint one <br />member to the Zoning Urdinance Board of Adjustmer\t, and <br />an alternate member. Mr. Serur asked Counci I approval <br />of his appointment of Joe Ascoha as member, and E~win <br />Tiejter\ as alternate. After discussion, Alderman Pool <br />moved that the Counci I approve Joe Ascona ana Erwin Tiej- <br />ten as membe~ and alternate member, respectively, tQ the <br />Zoning Ordinance Board of Adjustment. Alderman Korff <br />seconded the motion and on roll cal I the following vote <br />was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Damon, Froh, Korff, Pool, Whittenberg <br />None <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion carried. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor read aloud a letter from the Texas Highway Depart- <br />ment, reporting on a requested survey of the need for a traffic <br />light at Hopkins and RM 12. The results of the survey were <br />that at no single hour of the day did the traffic justify a <br />traffic light. There was discussion on the situation. The <br />City Manager said that a report on the traffic survey being <br />made by the signal light company should be in within a few <br />weeks. J t was suggested that the Po lice Department be re- <br />quested to prepare a report on the number of accidents which <br />have occurred at the corner of Edward Gary and Hopkins since <br />the extension of RM 12 through the City, and at the corner of <br />Hopkins and RM 12. An enquiry was made about the problem of <br />two-way traffic on the I 35 access roads. The City Manager <br />stated the Highway Department had refused tha~request, also. <br />Mr. Whittenberg said he thought the City's Highway Committee, <br />the County Commissioners Court and the Texas Highway Depart- <br />ment should start working toward getting a loop around <br />San Marcos, to alleviate traffic congestion in the heart of <br />the City. Alderman Whittenberg moved approval of a Resolut- <br />ion to authorize the City's Highway Committee to start work <br />in that direction. Alderman Froh seconded the motion, which <br />passed by common consent. Alderman Korff spoke of the need <br />for parking on one side of the street, only, in the vicinity <br />of Vi I la Marques Apartments. He said he felt parking on one <br />side of the street, only. on Blanco, Scott and Endicott, and <br />other short streets in the Vi Ila Marques area should be con- <br />sidered. Alderman Whittenberg said off-street parking regu- <br />lations should be enforced. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor read a request from members of Greater Beihel <br />Baptist Church for a street light in front of their church <br />bui Iding at 726 Centre Street. Alderman Pool moved that the <br />City request LCRA to install a street light at 726 Centre. <br />Alderman Froh seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. <br />
