<br />regular meeting <br /> <br />january 30, 1967 <br /> <br />page three <br /> <br />.// <br /> <br />The Mayor read aloud a letter from the local Jaycees, <br />in which they outlined their plan for printing B color <br />map of San Marcos, They asked the City to ,assume half <br />the $60 deficit; the Chamber of Commerce had agreed to <br />pay the other half, Alderman Froh moved that the City <br />contribute $30 toward the new Jaycee map of San Marcos. <br />Alderman Pool seconded the motion and on rol I cal I, the <br />following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY; <br /> <br />Damon, Froh, Korff, Pool, Whittenberg <br />None <br /> <br />The Mayor deciared the motion carried. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor introduced a matter tabled at the January 9 <br />meeting: the cancellation of a permit issued to Burke <br />A. Hargrove for operation of bi I liard tables at the <br />proposed new Ted Breihan Shopping Center. Mr. Breihan <br />said his only contatt with Mr. Hargrove had been by <br />long distance telephone and that he did, not have any <br />agreement with him on renting space for a reCreation <br />center. Since the application for a permit was ap~hov- <br />ed on the premise that Mr. Hargrove had secured a locat- <br />ion for his business, i~~uan~e of the permit would be In <br />violation of the ord,nancegoverning the operation of <br />bi 1 liard tables in San Marcos. Alderman Whittenberg <br />moved that the Counci I rescind the action approving the <br />appl ication for a permit. Alde~man Damon seconded the <br />motion. Dr. Pool said he'did not see how the man could <br />be den i eda perm it. The City Manager sugge'sted that Mr. <br />Hargrove be notified of the impending action. It was <br />agreed by common consent to fol low Mr. Wolff's suggest- <br />i on, and defer act i 6n on resci ndi n9 the appl i cati on, <br />unti I a future meeting. <br /> <br />The Counci I authorized, by common consent, repairs <br />amounting to $1.697.03 on the Girl Scout House, see <br />attached itemized estimate. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Mr, Wolff reported on an enquiry into the policy of other <br />cities on the issuance of parking meter permits. Most of <br />the cities that replied to the enquiry issued permits only <br />to business firms that had no rear entrance for loading. <br />The local situation was thoroughly discussed, The Mayor <br />suggested that news media representatives and the District <br />Attorney be issued permits, with no charge. The City Man- <br />ager said when City officials met with the County Commission- <br />ers, he suggested that several meters be reserved for the <br />Court House. Judge Max Smith had expressly said there would <br />be no meters ~eserved. Mr, Wolff recommended to the Counc; I <br />that no permits be issued. The Mayor saId: "Including the <br />Press?" and the Cit~ Manager replied:"Yes." Bob Barton of the <br />Citizen Advertiser said: "I don't think the news media should <br />have any special privileges. I don't think it's right." <br />Ted Breihan said he pa~d about $10 a year in parking tickets, <br />inferring that this cost less thah the parking permit at the <br />current charge of $18 a year. Alderman Froh moved that the <br />City do away with al I p~rking meter permits. There was no <br />
