• Dianne Wassenich, 11 Tanglewood, representing the San Marcos River Foundation, stated they
have been working hard since TCEQ approved the project. They have filed a motion for TCEQ
to reconsider approval now that they have gathered all the information in order to protect this
tract. She urged Council to wait until TCEQ has a chance to review the information. She asked
why is the city rushing this through? Why has TCEQ allowed a highly unusual approval of the
geological assessment? She hopes it is a case of new people who don't understand the need to
protect these features. She reported the site was cleared for cows in 2007, and almost
immediately the process began for development. She reported there is a major fault visible from
the air, and there is a complex of nine faults that are missing from the geologic assessment.
These underlie much of the Craddock extension, and should be protected with buffers. She
asked why these features are missing, and was it because they are inconveniently located where
the apartments and road are planned? There are many caves and recharge features missing. She
said she needs the original coordinates; we can't let these missing features drop out of sight and
build four -story buildings.
Wendell Hethcock, 1509 Hamilton, expressed concern about children walking to school. This is
a place he is proud to live, but he is concerned about safety and the traffic this project will
present.
Mike Debow, 1500 Brown Street, stated he is concerned about the traffic situation. This is a
quiet, friendly part of town, and he would love to keep it that way. This type of development
will create traffic. If this project is put in, it will destroy the peace and safety of the
• neighborhoods.
Gerald Castillo, residing in Oak Heights, said that everyone has made solid points and asked the
Council to please reconsider.
Denise Hanson, 800 Indiana, noted that 75% of white collar workers do not live or pay taxes in
San Marcos. They all live in areas that are protected and continue to be protected.
Kelly Jones, 1303 Columbia, said that she loves her neighborhood. She has concerns with
increased traffic, noise, and the back sides of shops facing homes. Runoff and crime will be a
problem. She presented a petition to the Council requesting they not approve this change. She
stated that a Citizens Advisory Committee is a good step. She asked the Council to go with
master plan and to put time into this development and make sure it won't trash neighborhoods.
Develop in a smart way and consider the citizens.
Mary Alice Debow, 1500 Brown, asked what is the occupancy rate for existing apartments?
Why do we need more apartments, especially in neighborhood areas? As for the commercial
component, she sees empty commercial buildings all over town.
Leslie Salas, 900 Franklin, secretary of the Oak Heights Association, said they had chosen the
area for the neighborhood environment and the elementary school in the neighborhood. This
will be jeopardized if the development occurs.
•
RM050410 Minutes Page 9
