<br />32-f <br /> <br />Code: <br /> <br />Professional and Managerial Group <br />Miscellaneous Professional Series <br /> <br />CLASS TITLE: PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER <br /> <br />CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: <br /> <br />Under administrative direction, performs complex and varied responsible <br />professional journalistic and public information duties; coordinates audio-visual <br />and close circuit television projects; and performs related work as required. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: <br /> <br />Prepares, edits, and disseminates approved informative material as to <br />ongoing city projects, public interest projects, City Council activities and <br />Community Development programs; acts as liaison with local and area news media <br />people regarding news releases and technical information regarding programs <br />and projects; researches, writes, and edits news articles, informational items, <br />and technical data for approval and release to citizen groups and the news media; <br />operates audiovisual and sound equipment when required in covering City Council <br />meetings, special group programs, and other assigned projects; coordinates <br />projects, area community meetings by advertising for citizen participation, <br />announcing meeting dates and assuring maximum citizen input for Community Develop- <br />ment programs, projects and activities; personally makes public personal appearances <br />before City groups, governmental bodies, news media, and others to explain and/or <br />clarify programs of a controversial or popular interest; works closely with <br />COmmunity Development employees and projects to. foster the success and culmination <br />of Community Development goals; prepares, edits, coordinates publishing and <br />disseminating of the city's annual report; prepares correspondance and special <br />reports or technical documents as assigned; may assist in budget preparation; <br />maintains city scrap book of news clippings, news releases, and public articles <br />relating to city operations. <br /> <br />Training and Experience: Graduation from college or university with degree in <br />journalism or specific field directly related to public information with a minimum <br />of three years experience in public broadcasting, newspaper writing,or as a public <br />information officer. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />DESIRABLE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: <br /> <br />Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Considerable knowledge of principles of journal- <br />ism, broadcasting, and television news dissemination; considerable knowledge of <br />correct use of the English language, spelling and news report writing. <br /> <br />Ability to compose and write news articles or news releases from technical <br />source information; ability to establish and maintain effective working relation- <br />ships with others; ability to orally, concisely, and intelligently present reports, <br />releases, and information. <br /> <br />Code: <br /> <br />Technical Group <br />Sub-Professional Engineering and Planning Series <br /> <br />CLASS TITLE: PURLIC WORKS INSPECTOR <br /> <br />CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Under general supervision, performs complex responsible sub-professional <br />Civil engineering; and performs related work as required. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: <br /> <br />Establishes lines and grades and checks stake locations for construction <br />projects; checks, analyzes, reduces and uses survey and other field data, adapting <br />and transferring such material to maps, profiles, ~ross-sections, drafts or other <br />
