Melanie Ferrari, 601 University, introduced herself as the newly elected ASG president and <br />40 expressed her desire to continue the current great relationship between the university and the <br />community. She then introduced the new student liaison, Tyler Johnson. <br />Tyler Johnson, 601 University, stated that he is honored to serve as the new Student Liaison. He <br />reiterated that cooperation between the City and the student body is essential to success. <br />Through service and leadership alongside each other, we can accomplish our goals. <br />Matt Akins, 312 Laredo, provided written comments (attached). <br />Christie Maycock, 1900 Aquarena Springs #6201, reported she is the new CEO of Compliance <br />Aviation. She stated that airport activities need a larger voice in the process. They are <br />experiencing stagnant economic growth, and they need fresh voices. She reported that meetings <br />are being canceled to avoid public input. <br />Amy Kirwin, 1131 MLK, President of CONA, reported that at the June 28 meeting there was <br />much discussion on the proposed Smart Code, and they had many questions. She requested that <br />the process not be rushed so we can determine how it will impact the neighborhoods. She <br />emphasized that CONA has been working /partnering with the City for over 30 years. They are <br />not going anywhere. <br />Gayle Ramsey, 1610 Lancaster, expressed concern about appointments of neighborhood <br />• representation. If the City attempts to actually put a lock on the voices of the community, it will <br />not be accepted. She referenced the new Student Liaison and noted that the ASG voted for that <br />person, and if the neighborhoods are deprived of that important point if the Council does the <br />appointments, then who will speak for us. This is an opportunity for better communication. <br />There are schisms here. She asked the Council to try to bring these parts together, and this is a <br />perfect opportunity to do so. <br />Thea Dake, 220 N. Johnson, reported that at the last Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, <br />many people shared their feelings as to inappropriateness for the historic neighborhoods. This <br />started as a downtown neighborhood study. She quoted from a June 8 article (quote attributed to <br />Mayor Narvaiz) from the Regional Mayor's Forum, and stated this sounds like the Smart Code is <br />already considered a done deal. She said that she has received numerous reassurances this is <br />only a proposal and subject to changes. She hopes Mayor's statement about building a city is not <br />just about buildings, but about people. <br />Polly Wright, 1134 W. Hopkins, said she doesn't want appointed representatives. She wants to <br />at least have a say in who they are. <br />011ie Giles, 524 Valley, said she is against a neighborhood commission. We don't need it in our <br />neighborhoods. We can come to you ourselves. She asked who would serve on this commission <br />and expressed concern it would be someone the Council would dictate to. She asked the Council <br />to leave the neighborhood as it is with CONA.
